Our council has a new C.E.O. Bath & North East Somerset Council has announced it will be recommending to a meeting of the full Council, next week that Sophie Broadfield is appointed as the next Chief Executive of the authority. Sophie will replace Will Godfrey, who is retiring at the end of December after six years of dedicated service to the council and 39 years of service in local government.

However, there is one golden tree in Sydney Gardens, unknown by name to me, until I did a bit of research. It's a Ginkgo biloba - also known as the maidenhair tree - which is native to East Asia. It is the last living species of the order Ginkgoales, which first appeared over 290 million years ago.

An email this morning from Helen Stanfield, who writes: 'Having heard the news about NHS targets for cancer treatment, I typed 'Bath' into the link and was disappointed to see that the RUH ranked 79th out of 121 NHS Trusts, despite the impressive-looking new Dyson Centre.
