A meme featuring Walter White from Breaking Bad, in the Diner Scene, wearing a beret and various French and Catholic symbols, with the following text:

"George W. Bush apparently believed that Iraq and Afghanistan were singled out in end times prophecy. In a 2003 phone call to French President Jacques Chirac, Bush appealed to their common Christian faith as a basis for the invasion: "Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase His people's enemies before a new age begins.""

"Chirac, a Roman Catholic, promptly asked his staff to call the French Federation of Protestants and find out what Bush was talking about."

This is a great point and brings up something I've been thinking about.

Critical literacy is a teachable skill, and while it's easiest to develop in grade school, it's also something that adults can learn.

If we could develop a community ethos of teaching literacy, it would be enormously powerful.

Is pedophile money so valuable or do they love child abuse so much it has to be defended at all costs

Actual ideological libertarian talk on the other hand always bends towards age of consent laws if you wait long enough.

I think a lot of normies who weren't super into politics meant it sincerely because they saw government spending as like a household budget (it's not, at all) and used "conservative" as a synonym for "cautious with our money" rather than secretly wanting to kill the poor in return for lower taxes.

There is a stronger link between childhood trauma & addiction, than there is between obesity & diabetes.

Two thirds of addicts report being abused as children.

That means the war on drugs is a war on traumatised people that just need help.

Ironically, a lot of the GOP’s ability to gut the ACA is PURELY because it’s a for-profit system. Obama built a complex and labyrinthian system that left doors wide open to legal challenges.

Had he made it an entitlement like Social Security, it would be safer because our law defends capital.

Opus Dei was what allowed Spanish Fascist Generalissimo Francisco Franco to rework himself as being an ally against the Soviets. They legitimized a man who took over Spain via a coup and waged a bloody war on his own people, only won from direct Nazi support.

β€œrepublicans weren’t racist in the aughts!” oh yeah man for sure if there’s one period of time american conservatives were totally not racist it was the bush years. you nailed it, our nation’s dullest former former bloggers.

β€œyes the young republicans of the mid neo-20s were racist and believed the same things as those today, in 2041, but they were slightly less open about it. I believe this is an important semantic distinction we must discuss.” -The Gentleman of Thoughts (at DoggyDoggyPoopSlut on linkedin dot social)

can't wait for the next generation of liberals to start posting "joke if you must, but the young republicans of the neo-20s were nothing like today! no one was racist back when I was a campus republican." what do you think we'll call posts then? twimples? skrats? do you think we'll still have bees?

In some ways it wasn't even that I hated being fat, I just hated how the fat made me look like a fat *man,* instead of a fat woman. I just wasn't letting myself understand the real reason I hated my body

Fact Check: No, There Is Not A New Survey Showing Trans Identity Is Decreasing The claim, which originates from far-right professor Eric Kaufmann, appears to have made a glaring error: the survey actually shows more people have come out, not fewer.

Great reporting from @erininthemorning.com. If anything mattered anymore, this kind of analysis, and the overzealous misuse of the data would be humiliating.

The thing is that the modern GOP (not to mention its basement-confined moron stepchild, the Mises Caucus libertarian β€œparty”) is accurately depicted by this language and a critical mass of the party is absolutely fine with it.

Who Goes Nazi?, by Dorothy Thompson

I fell into a Dorothy Thompson hole this weekend and her article (1941) on who goes β€œMAGA” is worth a revisit.

Just so everyone is clear, the main issue in the Supreme Court voting rights case tomorrow is whether it's racist against white people to enforce the Voting Rights Act.

I'm dead serious. We live in incredibly stupid times.
