the ESPN Misery index thing that everyone's been talking about today.

In this screenshot I have a misery rating of 100.

My teams are listed as the Montreal Expos, Alpine F1, the Washington Generals, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, the Russian Olympic Committee, and Glass Joe, the first opponent from Mike Tyson's Punchout.

I'm Jewish and I think about antisemitism all the time. I can't tell you how fucking weird it is that Homeland Security posting literal neo-Nazi propaganda generates less discussion about the threat to Jews than a mayoral candidate who believes Palestinians are human beings.

i really think the only reason we haven't created new states — which was a common political tactic in the 19th century, see nevada and the dakotas — is that 50 is a round number

you can't say (correctly) "Vote Blue no matter who" and then desert the idea when a left-winger wins, and party leaders even encouraging or winking at opposition to Mamdani at this point are fools

The funniest part is that his entire driving force for every decision he’s made in the last ten years is to become the most liked, most popular little birthday boy of all time. And it’s literally made him despised around the world.

the left did their part during Biden's presidency - they weren't the ones gumming up the works, everything that didn't pass was because of Manchin or Sinema

now, in the face of open fascism, a little party solidarity is the absolute least they should expect

Violent Crime in D.C. Hits 30 Year Low Total violent crime for 2024 in the District of Columbia is down 35% from 2023 and is the lowest it has been in over 30 years, according to data collected by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) a...

As Trump plans to deploy national guard troops in DC, citing "crime that is totally out of control," it's worth noting just how high up, or far down, a news organization includes this fact in its reporting:

I got a flu booster today and it made me reflect on the sense of national accomplishment I felt when I drove to a public facility, waited in my car until my number was called on an app, and got my first covid jab. It's fucked the right gets to erase what a moment of technological liberation that was

usually if you ask experts why an empire fell they’ll say it’s nuanced and multifaceted, so i think it’s kind of cool that with America future historians will get to just say like “oh they took the idiot train to moronsville”

My goto is to ask LLMs how many states have R in their name. They always fail. GPT 5 included Indiana, Illinois, and Texas in its list. It then asked me if I wanted an alphabetical highlighted map. Sure, why not.

I think Democrats should offer voters a broadly defined anti-fraud platform. Yes, obviously, start with Trump’s influence peddling, but don’t stop there. Online fraud is massive, almost every phone call you get is a scam, and the solution has to be federal or it just won’t work.

As the United States becomes more brazenly corrupt, we have reached the stage where meetings to plan cover-ups of crimes are not done in secret, but are announced, and are not done in remote parking decks, but at the Vice President's home.

I feel like every single day I need to post a reminder: if you ask an LLM about itself it DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ITS INNER WORKINGS and WILL NOT TELL YOU ANYTHING ACTUALLY ABOUT ITSELF. It just (as it always does) will make up some plausible sounding answer.
