Left Twitter in November 2022. I'm mostly using Mastodon for social media, but have made an account here to follow good sources of news for trans people and hopefully find a few of my mutuals from my Twitter days. Probably won't post much here.

Even better is when you find the potatoes as well.

It's a happy day when you go looking for potatoes but end up finding your missing red knit hat and flannel pajama bottoms.

Small correction. I built a cat shelter for Ginza in October 2023. Time flies I guess.

When Ginza and I moved out of that apartment complex, I tucked the shelter that had been built for her next to the other cat shelters that a rescue organization had put in the hedgerow nearby.

I'd go outside to call for her and feed her her breakfast.

She used it for the next month and a half til we got into December and it got cold and when I finally got her to stay inside a couple of nights, she decided indoors was even better than shelter. And now she's a fulltime indoor cat.

I'm one who can vouch for the shelter that the link shows how to build. I built one back in October 2024 for an outside cat before I had to go away for a week. When I came back, I found she had been using it because in the days that followed getting back, she would often be in it in mornings when

Tried making a lentil soup today for the first time ever. It turned out really good and it's definitely going in the rotation of easy crockpot meals. A crockpot is a vital kitchen utensil when you're a low spoon person. You can cook up a few days worth of meals without a whole lot of fuss & effort.

A letter written to Chess Review magazine, published in August 1958, 10 months after the cover with a photo of a black cat at a chessboard. The letter is written by the man who met and married the lady who had the cat. It reads:

I am currently competing in three Postal Chess sections fo which one is prize section, 57-P 55. One of the other contestants is Miss Mary De Revere whose cat was pictured on the cover of CHESS REVIEW (October, 1957).

Frankly, I was a trifle curious as to what a lady Post Chess player would look like. So, when Miss De Revere took her vacation last September in the White Mountains, I invited myself to dinner. I found out what she looks like. Miss De Revere and I plan to be married next week-end.

My fiancee claims that she is no mood to clobber me in the chess game and wishes to resign. I feel that it would be decidedly unfair to the other five players in the section, whom I regard from our correspondence as being fine gentlemen, each and every one. Also, I have no desire whatsoever to go down in the annals of Postal Chess as the conniver who extricated himself from an inferior position against a girl by marrying the girl.

So, in accordance with Rule 19, will you kindly inform us what is proper in the present situation, and we will cheerfully abide by any decision you may hand down. If you wish to adjudicate the game as of now, I will gladly pay the expense of adjudication. Both of us intend to finish our other five games to the best of our ability and feel that any action you take should be motivated foremost by protecting our opponents' rights.

W.L. Sickman
Portland, Maine

As final note, the letter while published in August 1958, was received in December 1957.

So later on I was browsing through the scanned archive of 1958 Chess Review issues and found a letter written to them, that identifies the cat as belonging to a lady had been playing correspondence chess with the letter writer. The two met one another and got married!

It's highly unlikely there are any more photos of cats, but I just want to document my sources. I wonder if it's possible there might still be surviving print copies of Chess Review.

A closer look at the void cat playing chess. It seems to be looking intently at the white king. It also seems that its paw might be getting ready to give the king a nudge.

I also zoomed in to take closer look at the inky void who graced the cover of a chess magazine.

On the October 1957 cover of Chess Review, a black cat is seemingly playing chess. It is looking intently at the white king on the board. The cover is captioned, "A CT CAN NIP AT A KING." The photo is a black and white photo.

@catsofyore.bsky.social While browsing through scanned archives of the magazine Chess Review, which was published from 1933 to 1969, I found a cat! People who have watched Netflix's The Queen's Gambit will recognize that Chess Review was the magazine shoplifted by Beth Harmon.
