I remain wrongly convicted of slander in Italy, and loads of people still think I'm a killer despite my acquittal. I am at peace with these facts. I will also never stop fighting to clear my name.

This is a paradox. Embracing this paradox is a key that can free you from suffering.

Why is this my life!?

I can't tell you how many times I screamed that in my head until I realized that it didn't matter. I didn't deserve 26 yrs in prison for a crime I didn't commit. But THIS was MY life. Once I accepted that, it opened me up to finding beauty, joy, and peace.

It set me free.

In a spectacle of nature's infinite power, glorious Mount Fitz Roy, battered by furious winds, emerges from the clouds. Patagonia's mountains can be hidden for days, but when they clear, beauty is endless!

I seem to have come to a dead end. How do I move beyond this thread to the next? What can this idea tell us?

If your day has been difficult, or if you’re feeling anxious, here’s some Cornish medicine to ease your heart. It might not change things much but hopefully a moment of calm will help in a small way. May your evening be peaceful, my friends. 😊

3. A detailed explanation of the physical and psycological processes that give rise to the mental proliferation and misperceptions which cause disagreements, quarrels and (in the end) violence.

This translation is for a future book. Here is a very religious text from early Buddhism, and yet what it deals with is the psychological experience of ending how we suffer, for which "the end of the world" is used a a metaphor.

Even if we're devoted to religion, we still need healing of the mind.

AN 4.45 Rohitassa-sutta An English translation of AN 4.45 Rohitassa-sutta, A teaching to Rohitassa

A new translation of one of the early #Buddhist #PaliTexts, the Rohitassa Sutta, AN 4.45
A strange text in which a deity asks about travelling to "the end of the world". The Buddha says that's impossible, and yet without reaching it, there is no ending to suffering.

A suggestion for ways of not only withstanding [the current political] crisis, but finding joy. It's this:—
We need to remember what we’re capable of. Every day, especially now, let your mind be blown by something you do or read or listen to or create. Be blown away by a meal, a hug, a concerto, a poem, a painting, a random encounter, a moment. That is one way we get through this—to remain open to everything that is wondrous in the world and everything we are capable of to make it more beautiful, more meaningful, and more fascinating.

If you're interested in the early #Buddhist #PaliTexts, I've started posting translations of excerpts to take you straight to places most helpful to meditators. They're for a book I'm planning, and it will take time to build them up. Find what is already done here:

What worries are you carrying within you? Do you have a to-do list as long as your arm? As you breathe in, connect with your body, your breathe, this moment. Then on the out-breath allow an "aaahhh" to flow through your whole body and mind, and let go of all tension. You might find it helpful to vocalise the "aaahhh". Have some fun with this. For this week, if you notice yourself becoming tense or disconnected during your day, return to this practice of "aaahhh". At the end of the week I suggest that you take some time to evaluate the impact of this practice.

Coming into the present moment is like stepping into another dimension. Here's one way we might do it. Breathe out with a long, satisfied and audible "Aaahhhh!". Let Br. Phap Hai explain:

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

Seeing visible forms without mindfulness, one takes note of what is pleasant. Knowing an impassioned mind, one relishes them.
Many feelings multiply, born of visible forms. So longing and dislike, injure the mind. Accumulating distress like this, one is said to be far from well-being [or, nirvana].

#PaliTexts From SN 35.95 the Māluṅkya-putta Sutta. It goes on to describe habits of noticing pleasant sounds, tastes, smells, touches and thoughts. Then it describes the process of noticing WITH mindfulness, so diminishing distress and drawing near to well-being [or, nirvana].

Some clouds uplift the spirit. These cumulus clouds somehow enhance the blue sky. Other clouds depress the spirit, like the grey blanket of altostratus when it hangs around day after day. We need to get beyond our reactivity to see both with the eyes of equanimity. Have a good day every day #anapana
