I can finally share the cover for ‘Neurodivergent, by Nature: why biodiversity needs neurodiversity’ with you all. Designed by the brilliant Lauren Marina, the rooted oak is the perfect symbol for my new book, and I absolutely love it! Published on July the 31st by Bloomsbury.

Seed saving: free plants, no air miles.
It’s so easy. I collect the seed heads when they are ready and leave to dry on windowsill on a piece of white paper.

Seed saving: a mature dahlia seed head. If you remove from the plant , let dry, You can just pull it apart and get dozens of seeds. The seedhead Is different to the flower head in that it is pointed if you squeeze it it’s kind of juicy. The flower head is rounder / Flutter at the end.

This land was bare when I started by PhD there many years ago, since has become a beautiful wild woodland.

I had a fascinating discussion this morning on Howth Head including cattle, goats, natural forest and what it means to 'conserve' nature in a Special Area of Conservation for a story im working on

Mature teasel seed head - spiky brown oval thing.

Seed saving: a mature teasel seed head. If you remove from the plant , let it dry, put in a bag and shake, seeds will just fall out, plant them straight and you’ve got loads of teasel. The pollinators love the flowers, and birds love the seed if you leave it stand over the winter.

It’s not rocket surgery folks. If the flowering is complete and you think what remains is the seeds? You are probably right. I will follow up with some examples of seed heads from various flowers. Just try it. If you get it wrong, you have nothing to lose.
