She did her duty, fulfilled her obligation, then disappeared. Was she disappointed with how her life turned out too?
Will my bones be found in the leaves years later like hers?

I should count my grandchildren, attend their recitals, and teach them not to be afraid of bees, and learn to love spiders and snakes. But I am reminded of a cat I cared for once, who gave birth to a litter of kittens, weaned them, then disappeared. I found her skeleton in the leaves years later.

Everyday is a struggle to do the right thing and avoid the easy path which beckons like a siren singing to Odysseus's men. Take one step on it, and the next step is even easier. It's frightening - yet so alluring and seductive. And very #gothic, right?
At my age I should be content. I should rest.

We are supposed to inherit the earth, yet what will be left after the techno-fetishists squeeze out the last watt for their data centers that replace writers, musicians and artists? 3 Mile Island is being restarted to feed #Microsoft. Water shortages in rural America, aquifers to cool processors.

To succeed in this world, you must care only about yourself. Think only about yourself. Ignore everything else. Just feed your ego. Use people. Hurt people. Climb the ladder by stepping on people.
For sensitive and shy people, we are the lambs that feed these wolves.

I don't like this world, or my place in it. It is too brutal and self-centered. The promise of a bright future from my childhood has been replaced by a disappointing reality of AI, oligarchs, Trump and "social media." The disappointment is personal too: I followed my passion and I failed.

In my youth I drove for hours and went clubbing by myself. The friends I had centered on drugs and booze, and when I matured out of that, they were left behind. As I aged, achievements went unnoticed. The few friends I had either died or disappeared. So I replaced them with dogs and cats.

I have struggled with #loneliness and the resulting #depression all my life. Drugs, both legal and illegal didn't work. Neither did alcohol. I put off a desperate vibe which #narcissists fail to notice, so I end up with them. It fills the void for awhile, then I realize that I'm still alone.
