Tuesday, October 21st, will be the main day of our summit, featuring panels and remarks from elected officials, policy experts, academics, and advocates about the biggest challenges facing liberalism in the 21st century, and the path forward for the center-left.

On Monday, October 20, we’ll kick off NLAS 2025 with our CNL Retreat & Political Action Day, featuring training, strategy, and political action in VA. In the evening, we’ll host a public opening reception to welcome all attendees and set the stage for Tuesday’s summit.

We’re thrilled to announce the return of our New Liberal Action Summit, taking place October 20-21, 2025. It’ll be our fourth annual gathering of center-left activists, thinkers, and leaders, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring everyone back to DC for this.

But yeah, I was tweeting this on my personal the other day — one of the big lessons for mods here is how important it is to create a pipeline for young moderate talent, who understand younger people’s strong desire for change.

A vote for Cuomo is a known, very terrible, quantity, while a vote for Mamdani is a gamble, on the chance that he might be less bad on policy, with the risk that he could also be really terrible as well.

Our scorecard isn’t about purity tests — it’s about getting Democrats to adopt a strong and straightforward message on trade and Trump’s tariffs.

We don’t want to see lawmakers with poor grades get primaried — we want to work with them to improve their message.

Trump's Tariffs Are Taxes

This year, we’ve worked to highlight how Trump’s tariffs are wrecking the economy, and hurting working families — that started with our launch of TrumpsTariffsAreTaxes.org and our My Tariffs Did That stickers, and continues with this index.

Fighting against protectionism and isolationism has always been core to our mission.

From advocating for free trade agreements, to pushing back against tariffs even when implemented by Democrats, we’ve been fighting for a more open and free world for almost a decade now.

We reviewed public statements, legislative efforts, and social media to find the leaders who are stepping up with clear, credible messaging on trade and Trump’s tariff agenda.

Some Democrats have led the charge, and we’ll be highlighting them over the next week.

Donald Trump has ignited a full-blown tariff crisis — and too many Democrats are still missing the point, or using outdated messaging.

This is not a distant policy debate — it’s an economic emergency, and Democrats need to meet the moment.
