On the 36th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution that freed the country from communism, Slovaks are once again protesting authoritarianism.

Students in Czechia and Slovakia have a long history of standing up for liberty.

On November 17, we remember two such occassions: 1939, when students opposed the Nazi occupation, and 1989, when student demonstrations put into motion the events of the Velvet Revolution

Robert Nozick was born on this day in 1938. 🥳

A son of immigrants, philosophy professor, and one of the most well known advocates of libertarianism in the academia, with his 1974 book Anarchy, State, and Utopia.

Our autumn conference season continues this month, with three events on November 22, in London, Tbilisi, and Bratislava, and again on November 28-30 in Krakow.

Same people, same culture, different lives.

The Berlin Wall wasn’t just a physical barrier – it was a symbol of how dramatically different lives can be under freedom versus control.

When the Wall went down at last, with it fell the symbol of the divide between freedom and totalitarianism.

We must #NeverForget the horrors of communism, and remember to celebrate the opportunities of a world with fewer walls.

While the Wall stood:
- 140 people died while attempting to cross the Wall.
- Over 75 000 people were arrested while trying to escape.
- Around 5 000 people managed to escape. 600 of them were the Wall guards.

On this day in 1989, the Berlin Wall finally fell.

For over 28 years, it divided Berlin, Germany, Europe, and the world. For over 28 years, it was impoverishing, ruining and ending lives.

The developments of the past several years have brought new obstacles both for the freedom in Georgia.

Last weekend, our local team met to plan for upcoming events, as well as to share ideas and brainstorm initiatives to face the current challenges. And also, to have some pizza. 😎

And finally, the Austrian economics conference by team Poland on the weekend of November 28-30, titled World Without Borders, will discuss the benefits of globalisation and how to safeguard them.

Taking place at the @iealondon.bsky.social, the Leviathan Rising conference by our team UK on November 22 will address government overreach and how to stop it.

Our team in Georgia, also on November 22, will delve into hybrid threats Europe is facing now, and how to navigate them.

With our Slovak team on November 22, we will focus on practical solutions and how free market solutions deliver good outcomes.

The semester is slowly nearing its end, but our autumn conference season isn't!
