Fantastic analysis! I want to blame big entertainment but every profit-seeking corp is designed to minimize risk. Rarely does that agenda align with an author intentionally causing discomfort to reveal truth. Our habit of misunderstanding attempts to provoke thought as attacks is not helping.

Watchmen attempted a compromise between truth and monetization. It flopped. Comic fans booed lack of integrity and oversimplification. The general public was confused by too much complexity and lack of a spoon-fed conclusion. Underwhelming directing didn't help. I think the problem is the audience.
