Fifth ZiF Summer School Randomness in Physics and Mathematics: From Thermalisation in Quantum Systems to Random Matrices This international Summer School is building on four previous ZiF Summer Schools, bringing together international PhD students and young postdocs from various areas in mathematics, mathematical and theoretical physics. The participants will take part in 2 intense weeks of 8 interdisciplinary lecture series. They will be presented by 8 distinguished scientists. The school will include exercise sessions led by the lecturers and offers the opportunity for all participants to present their own...

Nice talk by Pierfrancesco Urbani about our recent work on generalization, overfitting, memorization in two layer networks www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRdH...

One figure summary: learning and overfitting/memorization take place on different timescales in large models.

A reproduction from the book "An introduction to the meaning and structure of physics" by L.N. Cooper where he describes how Kepler moved to use ellipses to describe Tycho Brahe's data after about 70 failed attempts with epycicles.

IWTYO when I learned that (according to Leon N. Cooper) Kepler tried ellypses to match Brahe's observation after *some 70 failed attempts*. We are lucky he did not have a grant or conference deadline to rush for.
