yeah if they wanted to sunset the Xbox platform and hardware then just put Matt Booty in charge and go full game publisher instead. They want to grow the amount of people using the Xbox platform, hence why they’ve put someone with platform growth experience in charge

Yeah, people always pushed the 'no one wants an Xbox' when reality was 'no one can find an Xbox' in most markets, for long enough that they gave up.

They're not doing that, they're just re-emphasizing their console after nearly stopping production on it to save costs/push cloud.

(and as much as i like and will defend most of phil's tenure, microsoft had set him up to utterly lack credibility with regards to a "righting of the ship" or some kind of "restoration of xbox hardware." regardless of why xbox stumbled this gen, only new faces can say "change is here.")

my read on what's happening with xbox is different, primarily because if they wanted someone to sunset xbox, they had it on a pace to do that already. shaking things up suggests a bit of a hedge IMO (which @tomwarren.co.uk's report today indicated) - they realized xbox fading might be bad actually.

I like Seamus a lot, but he's been mourning the death of the brand for a long time. I don't think exclusives coming back, or the division being consumed by AI are the most likely scenarios, but I'm an idiot.

It's about shaping public perception. Right now the media/online discourse is that "Xbox is dead and will probably not put out new hardware".

These emails are all PR statements, and this one is about making casuals think Xbox isn't going away.
