This is hugely dangerous. Labour are hated. If they lose the next election to the far right, which is certainly possible, they will have done half of the fascists’ work for them by normalising authoritarianism.

Arresting hundreds of people for peacefully sitting down and holding a sign is not the job of the police and is a waste of their time when they could be out helping people. Amnesty has long criticised UK terrorism law for being excessively broad, vaguely worded and a threat to freedom of expression. Police responses to these peaceful protests only further confirm that our concerns are justified.

Nearly 500 people were arrested for peacefully protesting genocide yesterday. Starmer is creating an authoritarian infrastructure which the far right cannot wait to get their hands on. The Labour Party has betrayed everything it was created for.

This is disgraceful and must not be normalised. Mark’s Antifa book is, even more than previously, essential reading.
