Abstract for the talk: Linguistic dissociation is a process through which people come to distance themselves from
particular linguistic resources in their repertoire because those resources have become
entangled with significant negative interpersonal experiences. Classrooms are powerful
spaces when it comes to shaping how we feel about our languages, so what do educators need
to know about this phenomenon?
In this talk, Dr. Ashley R. Moore will explain what linguistic dissociation is and what we know
about how it is experienced. He will finish by sharing the implications of linguistic dissociation
for teaching and learning, focusing on how it complexifies various plurilingual pedagogies (Lau
& Van Viegen, 2020), including translanguaging pedagogy.

Rethinking translanguaging: (Trans)bordering, spatiality, and academic discourse socialization inย aย graduate TESOL classroom Abstract. This study examines how an applied linguistics graduate course instructor socializes students into academic concepts and norms in a graduate TESO

Iโ€™m delighted to share that my new article is out in Applied Linguistics! In this piece, I introduce the idea of (trans)bordering โ€” a semiotic process in which we create and negotiate borders that define acceptable practices and norms.

Burnout happens not because workers failed to practice enough self-care.

Burnout happens because the working conditions that cause burnout were never addressed.
