Chuck Schumer’s interview in the Times today is essentially an open confession that Senate Dems are willing collaborators under fascism. He makes it plain that they will not fight back and, in fact, support much of what Trump is doing with ICE and attacks on universities.

Because we deserve a man who likes that and doesn’t suck. Uncle Baby Billy to the rescue.

In 2021, McConnell successfully filibustered a Democratic CR ahead of a government shutdown and forced them to accept a clean one instead. What happened this week - a total cave on a totally partisan long-term funding bill - hasn’t happened in the 20 years I’ve covered Congress.

Chuck Schumer has converted me to being an accelerationist.

While the liberal is part of the oppressor, he is the most powerless segment within that group. Therefore when he seeks to talk about change, he always confronts the oppressed rather than the oppressor. He does not seek to influence the oppressor, he seeks to influence the oppressed. He says to the oppressed, time and time again, "You don't need guns, you are moving too fast, you are too radical, you are too extreme." He never says to the oppressor, “You are too extreme in your treatment of the oppressed,” because he is powerless among the oppressors, even if he is part of that group; but he has influence, or, at least, he is more powerful than the oppressed, and he enjoys this power by always cautioning, condemning, or certainly trying to direct and lead the movements of the oppressed.

I might check out Fall of Hyperion down the road, but the ending felt perfect to me in this moment. The ambiguity of the pilgrims’ (and galaxy’s) fate resonated and I’m perfectly happy not knowing exactly what the Shrike is.

Sesame Street really tells the story of America:

- Created for PBS to educate young (especially Black!) children
- Becomes a beloved institution cherished by the entire country
- Gets privatized and kicked to premium cable due to budget cuts

Stayed up late finishing Hyperion (brilliant) last night and was able to dive into Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel today.

Wonderful use of what’s likely this season’s final snow day.

Emilia Perez delivers exactly as much sensitivity toward its setting and subject matter as I would expect from Netflix execs and a French director, which is to say, none whatsoever.

Watched Emilia Perez last night and most of that movie gets a big “oof da” from me, but “El Mal” fucking slaps.

Well that does my heart some good. ❤️

Just finished “The Scholar’s Tale” in Hyperion and will now spend the rest of this weekend crying while I hold my wife and dog.

Helluva novel.

😂 This one is political, although the reaction would be the same if I suddenly had to run two weekly sessions.
