We get full control over the visuals of the XRay, despite being a super cheap 3D render. Also, since it's barely rendering anything it ended up adding no noticeable rendering cost, despite being an extra render in full resolution.

We can tweak the transparency and add 2D shader effects without having to render any 3D transparency or deal with all of the issues that come with transparency on complex 3D meshes!

Seems simple but ended up being a fairly elaborate setup where it renders separately from the main scene and is overlaid as a 2D element.

First day at gamescom completed! We had a great time meeting a bunch of lovely people.
