Life emerging. Such a fascinating process, no matter the species. I was not able to identify this little #larva. Here is a glimmer of #life on the MacKenzie River in #Oregon.

Over time erosion helps free the agates. They are a silicate and polish to a perfect glass, glossy finish easily.

To start with it's an agate from Oregon. Around 17 million years ago lava erupted and cooled leaving gas bubbles/voids in the igneous rock formations. Over time those voids were filled with mineral rich water that evaporated under extreme heat, over and over. This is called a hydrothermic process. 🧵

This is a piece of fossilized teredo wood. It's quite a treat to find one that has agate replacement, and has mineralized in such a way that there is this beautiful coloration.
