I think the biggest crime of the Horus Heresy novel series is the way it absolutely stripmined every single aspect of the Imperium, and esp the space marines, of nuance and mystery. No longer are the Primarchs what you imagine they could have been; their every moment is transcribed and it's so dull.

I know you're encouraged to kind of bring yourself to the lore in most TTRPGs and wargames, but this is genuinely ridiculous.

I think my big problem with the Draw Steel thing isn't the lack of settings - as long as the game's ethos is coherent, people are gonna make good sessions out of it. No, what bugs me is the utter non-commitment. "Oh we have an intricately detailed setting; but it's not set in stone! Do whatever UwU"

Digging into older RPGs I missed and I super want to like Mutant Chronicles but every single time I learn something new about Mishima the more I wish a Japanese person had ever come anywhere near the games development at any point in it's long history
