What does a ban on Palestine Action mean in practice?

What does a ban on Palestine Action mean in practice?

The government's decision to ban Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation is being rushed through Parliament.

It will be subject to a legal challenge, but legal action will take time and the impact on the movement will be immediate.

Counter-terrorism laws give the police wide ranging and poorly defined powers, leaving a lot of room for police to abuse their power. Experience of previous counter-terror policing tells us that these powers are used in an overtly racist and Islamophobic way.

What will be banned?

It will become a criminal offence to:

be a member of or express support for Palestine Action.
to express a positive view of Palestine Action or be ‘reckless’ about whether what you say about them could encourage others to support them.
wear clothing or carry anything in public which could arouse reasonable suspicion that you are a supporter of Palestine Action.
post or share images in support of Palestine Action.
fundraise for or give money to Palestine Action.
All of the above can relate to things you're doing online and offline (e.g. on social media, in public message threads).

Are there any exceptions to these rules?

There is an exemption under Section 10 of the Terrorism Act which is intended to protect people who are challenging the ban. That means you can still protest against the ban and talk about the official process to challenge it.

However, you still need to consider whether your expression is “reckless as to whether the expression will encourage others to support the organisation”, and it will still be a crime to generally post positive messages about Palestine Action or to share their logos and imagery.

Palestine Action have been banned as a terrorist organisation in the UK.

Read our FAQ on the proscription and find out what this means in practice for campaigners.

Gannets are strange birds.

Their physical features are adapted to dive into the water with speeds reaching 100 km/h, then diving up to 15 m deep. 🪶

If you're protesting this weekend, know your rights when interacting with law enforcement, including immigration agents.

Protesters filled the Iowa state Capitol to denounce a bill that would strip the state civil rights code of protections based on gender identity, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. businesses: we crunched the numbers and our company is 96% white, while america is 70% white. we should do something to help our staff resemble the actual population by altering our hiring practices to ensure we aren't excluding people of color.

conservatives: this is racism against white people

There is an AI company called GeoSpy, the AI is designed to look at a photo (any photo) and tell the user where that photo was taken. They initially opened it to the public, but privacy concerns led to them going private. And now they sell to the folllowing: law enforcement, government and insurance. I know we’ve been saying “don’t fucking take pics at protests” for years? But I think we need to escalate that to “don’t take pics at pride. Don’t take pics at queer events” etc
