An Emmet Otter remake, but it's set in the 90s and they play electronica.

Photo of kingfisher perched on a branch. Description from ebird: β€˜A small, dashing kingfisher of forested lowland and foothill streams and ponds on Mindanao and neighboring islands. Overall dark blue in color, slightly paler below, with a white throat and belly, a white patch behind the cheek, and a white spot behind the nostril. Note the pale silvery-blue stripe down the back to the tail, the whitish flecks on the head and wing, and the bright red legs. Unmistakable. Voice is a simple, high-pitched β€œtseep,” often given in flight.’

I was on Twitter for the writers and the book recommendations, the essays, the poetry, the community. I am here now for the same. I’m a nerd. Please reply with a favorite recent essay or poem or story or book recommendation, and thank you.

I don't buy that GRAND CREW should have been canceled. That was a mistake. The show is dang delightful.

See also: Rutherford Falls.

Just NBC/Peacock being hateful.

This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.

As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.

Okay hear me out: the video game Satisfactory is a perfect example of why Gen AI is bullshit.

I will explain.

Alysa Liu telling 60 Minutes β€œI love struggling, it makes me feel alive” is a legit revolutionary statement from a Bay Area native in a time when copious amounts of time and resources are being put toward convincing us to opt out of experiencing struggle, friction and self-actualization

Another thing I love about Alysa is that her embracing joy, whimsy, artistry, authenticity and prioritizing having a healthy body and mind over aesthetic conformity and optimization blows a massive hole in much of the cultural messaging being pushed on women, esp young women, right now

I'm applying this to my writing life immediately.

I do an ok job at it most of the time, but sometimes I get caught up in the BS. And when I do, I'm going to repeat this to myself.

I kept saying: that is what joy is and what it looks like. And I hated that they kept interrupting the moment to focus on the medal, the podium.

WHO CARES. Look at what she is creating out there!

"I don't care about medals."

"I just skate because I like to skate."

"I take breaks and I enjoy my life."

"My friends and family are the most important parts of my life."

"I don't define success as winning."

I listened to an interview with Alysa Liu yesterday and I can see that the interviewers are unsettled by her and do not know what to do with her responses.

She challenges so much of what USians are taught about competition and frankly about how to live a life.

The most profitable business model remains 1) scare the rich 2 ) sell them things that don’t work to protect them from the dirty poors.

I have started my Mad Men Rewatch. First time I’ll rewatch the whole series since it aired. Man, that pilot is flawless.

What's the marmot that's being handed out at the Olympics? Is it a marmot? A squirrel? What's the deal with the stuffies?

I think she would have said a soft "merde" and turned off the TV.

I wonder what she's doing with the rest of the day...

I was just talking about this the other day. The difference between India and the USA is population. When you have a 330 million population that sort of niche is filled by a particular state more than others. In a country of over 1.6 billion every street has its own Florida Man.

When they cut to the woman with the tight blonde pony, my brain went: "CΓ©line Dion!"

Of course it was not CΓ©line Dion and I'm not even sure if she's blonde at the moment.

Anyway, back to the hockey... #olympics #hockey #usa

There's not much that's good or cool about the internet, but occasionally your electrons can smack right into someone else who shares your core aesthetic. That happened to me today when I saw a clip of Sierra Ferrell on instagram.

I don’t mock anybody as fiercely and unrepentantly as I mock people driving this thing. I point. I laugh. I gun my (superior) engine. I don’t let them into traffic. I don’t let them pass on the right or the left. I will out my car back into park rather than give them next for a parking space.
