Another thing I love about Alysa is that her embracing joy, whimsy, artistry, authenticity and prioritizing having a healthy body and mind over aesthetic conformity and optimization blows a massive hole in much of the cultural messaging being pushed on women, esp young women, right now

I'm applying this to my writing life immediately.

I do an ok job at it most of the time, but sometimes I get caught up in the BS. And when I do, I'm going to repeat this to myself.

I kept saying: that is what joy is and what it looks like. And I hated that they kept interrupting the moment to focus on the medal, the podium.

I listened to an interview with Alysa Liu yesterday and I can see that the interviewers are unsettled by her and do not know what to do with her responses.

She challenges so much of what USians are taught about competition and frankly about how to live a life.

Dammit, I got into the wrong line of work.
