This is because the chart only counts democracies, so fascist consolidation (in Germany and Italy, mainly, but I presume also smaller countries like Austria) removes those countries from the chart. Fascism was still more popular back then - but it's dangerously ascendant now.

Brazil culture secretary fired after echoing words of Nazi Goebbels Roberto Alvim set off a storm of outrage with comments about culture that were eerily reminiscent of Hitler’s propaganda chief

When Bolsonaro's Secretary of Culture, Roberto Alvim, did something similar, the outrage over it was such that the government was forced to fire him despite its fascist sympathies:

Will such a thing happen in the US, I wonder...?

The SPD made many mistakes and committed indeed actions I would consider crimes, but it was a class party, and a class party fundamentally committed to democracy. The Democrats are neither, they are just the bourgeois party that is not explicitly fascist.

If the US Democrats/unions were anything like the SPD and ADGB, Trump would have already been driven from power, since his backing among elites is weaker than Hitler's, he lacks the massive military force that was the SA, and unemployment in the US was low enough to make a general strike viable.

...any trust in it and sought to kneecap it at every turn, despite Ebert's criminal behavior on behalf of said ruling class (which the SPD disavowed already by 1920). The Democrats are the party OF a portion of the ruling class. Moreover, the SPD led a paramilitary force of over two million men!

Ridiculous take. The SPD voted uniformly against authoritarian measures (there was no Manchinism allowed). The SPD was an explicitly socialist party which explained exactly how capitalism was at the root of the social crises of the day. The SPD struck fear into the ruling class, which never had...

Personally this but I would add that "proxy conflict" to me entails a situation of military/economic/political dependency on the patron(s), but dependency does not entail lack of agency - a lot of times small states dependent on the assistance/protection of larger ones...

I disagree. He would in fact have children with Margaery, even if just out of a sense of duty (that's most gay monarchs). And I feel they'd raise kids well (not as well as Ned and Cat, but still). Also Margaery is most likely to succeed Olenna as the main political strategist for her House, I feel.

Renly's real claim is House Tyrell has both the strongest power base, the least infighting, and the most effective governing apparatus, and he's competent at appearances and liked by the Tyrells enough that them being the real rulers poses no problems.

This is... precisely the plot of The Last Question down to the letter. The interesting thing is Ilyenkov wrote his essay around the same time Asimov wrote his short story, yet Ilyenkov's essay was only published in the 1980s...

- is the core issue to consider, and the loneliness crisis it has caused, which is most prevalent among young people. The far-right exploits it to treat loneliness as an issue only for straight men, and to blame women for it, which sells of course also because of the misogynistic/patriarchal

Of course, there are socio-cultural and technological factors to consider as well, and of course "community" in the traditional sense didn't serve everyone, it could be very conservative and exclusionary. But the end of that community - which is tied to the erosion of physical spaces for it to exist

Framing this as being about (straight) men in particular is a narrative of the right that misrepresents the real situation entirely, and blaming the actions of (straight) men as individuals for it is largely falling for that narrative.

Not really, the problem that is upstream of it all is no one is getting laid, men or women, gay or straight, because neoliberalism and austerity have destroyed third spaces where people could meet and interact in their day-to-day lives, and dating apps have filled the gap for profit.

I will be eager to read that, I am aware elections on the municipal level are different from elections to the National Assembly, but I don't know how much popular participation in nominations in that context actually matters.
