Found during excavations at #Vindolanda fort just south of Hadrian’s wall this writing tablet made of thin sheets of wood was uncovered dating between AD95-105 to Sulpicia Lepidina from Claudia Severa inviting her to a birthday party. The final lines are in Claudia’s own hand

I took the opportunity during this dry weather to revisit the Roman bridge abutment on the North Tyne close to Chesters Fort #HadriansWall

I spent 13 years living in the arctic, Tromsø North Norway. I've seen them at their best.

A view of the northeast corner of Vindolanda looking south. Over the next few years this area will be explored including this years excavation within the fort. The walls show constant rebuilding since their construction in AD214 but 8 other forts lie beneath since the founding of the site in cAD85.

The reconstruction is an incredible piece of work in itself. Who knows what might turn up this year or at Magna as we get into som nice anaerobic fort ditches

Well that was a headline i never expected to see. Had to check the date wasn't April 1st.

That's the problem, we have a GE here in Norway this autumn and i'd love to vote green, but as it stands they're more red with a light green wash applied on top. There's no good answer, but at least PR here gives them a better chance. I also have voting rights in the uk still.

I would vote green if they put the needs and well being of the planet and all living things before those of a single species. But very few people would go along with that voluntarily, and so here we are.

Cracking program, thoroughly enjoyed it, the thrill of discovery never gets old does it. Only another 4 months until i dust off my trowel and go searching for Romans again.

I wonder what treasures and surprises will turn up this year, from both Vindo and Magna.

I'm fortunate enough to be in a position that allows me the time and money to volunteer on archaeological projects. I'm very well aware how poorly paid archaeology is so am more than happy to pay if it helps fund a project.

Meat drones to soak up Ukrainian resources. And it works for them, no need for fancy expensive tech.

Looking forward to getting back there next year

Quantity, it's all about quantity. Start addressing the cause, not just the symptoms.

Keep on blaming the symptoms, never the cause.

I have spondylolisthesis, standing still or moving slowly means lower back pain and stiffness after an hour, but needs must. A good museum for me includes places I can sit to stretch out the muscles

And for those that may not have heard. Magna started turning up shoes this year as well. Given where the excavations are heading next year, i'd say watch this space!
