@lonesomebluejay.bsky.social I feel like this new Ethel Cain album would be your kind of thing? Have you heard it?

Such a daunting prospect but fairly enjoyable once you get going and massively satisfying once complete?

Someoneโ€™s wrongly listed a pressing on discogs (by a mere 21 years) sold it to me and gone to ground when Iโ€™ve politely pointed out the very obvious error and asked for a full refund and return. Iโ€™m sure it will get sorted but itโ€™s just the whole palava isnโ€™t it? Ffs!

These five Donald Byrd titles have proven themselves quite elusive to me on vinyl so I have acquired these wonderful NM Japanese โ€œmini-LPโ€ CDโ€™s to tide me over until Bluenote reissues them. Personally need a magnifying glass to read the liner notes though ๐Ÿง๐Ÿคฃ

@justplayed.bsky.social Hi Gareth. Safe to assume this oasis box will just be rehashing the same masters that are all currently available? Or have you heard otherwise?

Alanis introducing her musicians between each song and their names are all like "MR GULLIVER CHUTNEY-WAYLON ON BASS!" "MR FRANGIPAN MUSSEL-OSSIFY ON KEYBOARDS!" like they're household names

Liquid Skin is Gomezโ€™s magnum opus for me. Not to everyoneโ€™s taste but much more accomplished than the Mercury prize winning debut that preceded it. Miles better than anything that followed imo too.

Little Simz & Chineke! Orchestra review โ€“ rap-classical crossover is spectacularly realised Closing out a Simz-curated Meltdown festival, and with a host of star guests helping out, these songs gain extra nuance as orchestra and star meld perfectly together

Seeing and hearing Weller sing this 31 years older, wiser, wrinklier brings so much to the song - which betrayed a maturity beyond his years when he wrote it. In the same way I prefer Joni Mitchellโ€™s later version of Both Sides Now perhaps.

Confessions Of A Pop Group is 37 today. Here is a song from that record which the band chose as their one and only reunion performance in 2019. It appeared at the end of the Sky Arts documentary during covid and was such a monumental surprise. A top-ten Weller song imho.

I donโ€™t know if youโ€™ve ever read David Lines book about growing up (and growing old) a Weller obsessive. Wonderful read. The passage about what Itโ€™s A Very Deep Sea meant to him grieving for his father has stuck with me since I read it and helped me see what an incredible song that is.

If you are doing Rough Trade EAST then absolutely worth walking 5 minutes north of it to Flackback on Bethnal Green Rd. Excellent store, they have two others in London. Crouch End and Islington but not been to thoseโ€ฆyet!

Couldnโ€™t agree more with this. Why Weller thinks heโ€™s bringing anything to the party when he rolls him out is beyond me. I donโ€™t think heโ€™s creative in the slightest in the studio. And on stage, I reckon Iโ€™ve seen cardboard cutouts with more presence!
