The older #playdate project is now playable in Swift, and I'm really pleased with the gains. Operations that impacted the performance of the Lua version of the game barely drop the frame rate at all, and that's without any real optimizations yet.

This has not been easy, but it has been fun!

I'm re-writing an older #Playdate project in Swift because 1) I love Swift and 2) I'm optimistic that there could be performance gains.

While I am delighted to have all the nice language features of Swift, I had no idea how much stuff the Lua API has that the C API lacks.

This will be fun!

No, it’s a minor Playdate meme from a few years ago. It’s a phone holder, and someone bought it and posted a photo of their Playdate on it, and it looked like the Generations couch/cat and then a bunch of us ordered one.

I've made a ton of UI updates to the main menu and its subviews, added a fifth drum kit and they now swap out in real time to make previewing them nicer.
