Yes. And even with right the repair, there’s nothing stopping manufacturers from making hard to repair, expensive to repair, poor quality goods. It sucks!

So in my narrow self interest, which is only part of my voting calculus, I’m pissed! Does that mean I’d vote NDP? Hard to say, they don’t have a leader. So maybe all in all a smart move. But I’d vote begrudgingly for the Liverals if I did!

I’m just a guy who voted for the Liberals in a riding they haven’t held for like two decades. He came here twice, I even went to one event. I voted for him because the NDP was cooked and he said Big Things about housing. Then Gregor was appointed and these big things won’t help me get a house.

The play is simple.
1. Merge debt-burdened cash-burning xAI with Space X to mask the balance sheet.
2. Create hype about space AI data centres to fool retail investors
3. Private equity investors of xAI and SpaceX get bailed out in the IPO

checks out. they mismanage housing to the point of a homelessness crisis and then turn around and demand the province pay for the worsening externalities they created that now bothers their citizens.

homelessness. Anyway, I don't think there's any magical reason Vancouver and surrounding areas are so expensive, it's the zoning and the geographical limits.

07.02.2026 18:34 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

yeah, Saskatoon is one of the few more affordable places, makes sense that's possible there for everyday people. I've been keeping tabs on homelessness rates across these more affordable cities and they've skyrocketed. Ave rents going up from under $1k to $1.4k force those folks on the edge into

they do want houses, for sure. but its not affordable. so the best alternative is missing middle, hence Moffat's podcast.

and in many ways, existing property taxes have been subsidized by dccs, as you allude to. Vancouver has the lowest property taxes in all of North America. yet owners yell and scream when they increase. plus the bc gov provides a tax credit to owners (lol). reality is this infra needs upgrades anyway

that 'the pipes can't take it' as a way to push to stop densification. my partner and I, of course more much more than the median household income but won't ever be able to afford a sfh.

than building new. and yes, inadequate infra is a real thing, but its also a stick that NIMBYs love to use to beat new development. my partner had an older hippie come into her work and gleefully tell her with no self awareness how him and his posse yell at councillors during development hearings

07.02.2026 16:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

right but remember the alternative is to build sprawl (limits in Vancouver as you point out, which pushes people up the valley and eventually makes commuting impossible) and all that sprawl requires entirely new infrastructure. the relevant question is whether its more expensive to improve existing
