Reminder: Never take my Silent Hill opinions too seriously. I think if I had not heard "Eileen Head this" "Eileen Head that" for years beforehand I actually would not have known that was her. I think even now after having stared at her 3D model for like 2+ hrs I still would not have recognized her.

I probably haven't said anything here that hasn't been said before by someone smarter than me but after seeing the new movie I felt the need to throw shade. Why was the movie panned but not this game? Why do they keep remaking SH2? Why did they both make Mary into a spider??? Was that coordinated???

Bloober seems to want their players scared but not uncomfortable and I just think, ok, you can have your jumpscares, but stop trying to sit at the table with the adults. Stop taking things that are good and censoring them. Horror is not about you

What irritates me is that they could've stuck to the one room idea and it might have even been better than the original... If there's anything the over-the-shoulder camera has a use case for, it's this, because all the turning and dodging would be disorienting and panic-inducing, which would be GOOD

Making the one small, confined room a house-themed hallway where you shoot the thing from miles away and playing audio recordings of Angela's dad abusing her through TVs that you safely destroy are extremely literal ways of distancing the player from the events... And I just ask myself *why*

I've never been able to articulate why I hate what SH2R did with Abstract Daddy fight until now but I think it's this:

The whole point of the fight is to put James/the player into Angela's shoes and SH2R takes you OUT of them because it's terrified of disempowering you (THE MAIN THING SH GAMES DO)

Probably because SH2R sold well but also definitely because Konami higher-ups have no taste. I'd compare it to 50 shades if Return to Silent Hill actually made a profit at the box office 😶

Also the Pyramid Head/Mary fight scene gave me instant flashbacks to that video of that lady covered in food getting spanked HARD ASF by that clown

I saw Return to Silent Hill... At the theater I went to it was sort of hard to see but somebody had thrown their drink at the screen... I think I understand now how hardcore SH2 fans feel all the time after hearing songs from SH4+3 in the movie. Steaming a little from my ears during the credits

I'd offer you Vincent's if I knew more about SH2/3 modding but I think copyright and stuff has made that slightly more difficult than 4 (they don't care about 4)

Excellent composition and lighting!!! I was very wowed on initial viewing... You see the protagonist's face first, look up, get creeped out, then look down and say OH. Horror/eroticism mixing is done very well here, to me it looks like he was praying for mercy before he got to him...

I think your point about "man pain reversal" is true and funny because Bloober cites SH2 as their inspiration while making the exact type of art that SH2 subverts long after... Arguing with people like Ito (people with giant egos who think nothing needs to change) is like arguing with a brick wall

I blame almost all of this on the remake. Lots of things open to interpretation in the original were changed to force one way of seeing the game (every scene with Pyramid Head is an example imo). Also, the remake kinda just fits the worldview of the average Twitter user better
