Isolation and loneliness amongst families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness
Families caring for a seriously ill child often feel isolated and emotionally unsupported. Rainbow Trust's two new briefings share our findings.
Proud to share new @rainbowtrust.org.uk briefings for #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, with its theme of community, on the #loneliness families of seriously ill children face, and what govt must do to help.

When I was in my late 20s or early 30s and raging/grumbling about why was it that individuals found it so hard to get what they needed, because of the system, and how it shouldnβt work like this, I first heard about this thing called βpolicyβ. I gradually moved over to that.
24.11.2024 15:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Iβve also spent a lot of time trying to help/work alongside people so that their voices are heard by the people who make decisions (small & large). Big A and little a advocacy, I suppose.
24.11.2024 15:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Iβve spent a lot of time being law-adjacent, giving info on peopleβs rights, along with clarity on systems and processes. Helping people get access to treatment (or discharged from it), housing, benefits, services etc, and then moving to campaigning/influencing for changes to the law.

Are we doing intro threads?! Iβve always worked/volunteered for charities, started with a womenβs mental health project (now sadly closed), and a local Mind. My experience working in small charities and doing βfrontlineβ work has always stayed with me. Being with people, where they are, is crucial.

Exactly, the point Iβm making. Teachers may under-identify young carers (tho there is good practice), whereas GPPS provides the chance to both recognise oneself in the definition (thanks to well-phrased q) *and* self-declare (anonymously). Different methodologies, results serve different purposes.
18.11.2024 16:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Is it about methodologies? If SC relies on teachers/school admin ID'ing YC, and GPPS is patient reported ID? Teachers/schools often say their schools have no YC, or that they have a small no., but they don't always "see" YC.

A screenshot of Bluesky's alt text reminder options. At the top of the page it says "Accessibility" then underneath there are two options for "Alt text" which are "Require alt text before posting" and "Display larger alt text badges." The first of these is toggled to "on." There's also a "Media" option which is "Disable autoplay for videos and GIFs."
19 million @bsky.app users? Better make sure they all know about the handy alt text reminder! π«‘
Go to Settings > Accessibility and make sure "Require alt text before posting" is toggled on.
We love that accessibility is such a priority here.
