I’m this on every platform you can think of, except for OnlyFans. Words at D Magazine (Arts, City Hall, State Lege, Education, etc.) and one bathroom stall in Waco. Prone to environmental embrittlement.

It's Monday Night Football, or as the folks at D like to call it, "The night we watch Tim's post about Troy Aikman's girlfriend trend again."

Last night I had a dream that I woke up and was mayor of Dallas, but my only job was to walk around and punch everyone on the left side of their chest as hard as I could.

I think I enjoyed it.

this was from 2016:

Guys, I just got done putting Tiny to bed.
While we were laying there, talking, he said, "Mommy, I have to ask you something." That's his new way of starting conversations with us, and I adore it.
"Mommy, if Donald Grump becomes the president, will my school close?"I asked him why he thought that. "Well, my friends said that if he is president they'll have to go away because he will make them."

That question, guys. It hit me in my guts.

Tiny goes to a school that is predominately native-Spanish speakers. In fact, he's in a Spanish-immersion kindergarten.
I've been holding my breath for months now, wondering if the hate in this election year would permeate his campus.

It has, but not in the way that it has in other schools. The talk isn't about who is different, but about what children have heard their parents worrying about - what will a U.S. under Trump look like for their family. What will happen to them. Should they make plans now? This worry is now on Tiny's playground.

I try very hard to be apolitical with Tiny. We talk more about what is right, and not about party, not about candidates. So I thought for a beat, then said, "I have to believe that this country is better than that. There are mean people in this country, this is true. But almost everybody's family in this country came from another country at some point. Even some of ours. So I hope that your friends will always feel welcome here, and will always be able to learn with you. And I love that you worry for your friends. But we will hope for the best."

I don't know if that was the wisest answer, or the best, but it's the best one I could muster around the lump in my throat.

This came up in my Facebook memories today. I hate that it’s actually worse than it was nearly 10 years ago when my kindergartener worried his friends would go away because of who was president.

We have these conversations periodically about how “this is the answer they want you to give, but this is the actual answer.”
Parents absolutely need to be checking their kids homework and take home folder, and asking a lot of questions about what their kids are learning.

I have resigned myself to needing to counter program whatever my kid is learning. And that’s in a district that is generally resistant to these kinds of shenanigans. 1/2

Is anyone else watching The Paper? Because I feel like the regular headwinds are a villian enough, they don't need to turn a woman with an accent into one. It's making me dislike the show.

Last year, a few months ago, whenever we ate all the barbecue, I was sick with what ended up being RSV. So today I got my flu shot and an RSV shot, on the advice of my doctor, a learned man of medicine and not a former drug addict/dead animal hoarder. (Two weeks ago, I got the COVID shot.)

City Hall’s needs may bring on its demise Earlier this week, the Dallas Morning News published a story about the ever-increasing costs of maintaining Dallas City Hall, a brutalist building and

"The talk of tearing down City Hall to build the new home of the Dallas Mavericks is interesting, sure. However, in the end, the real story is how much money the city wastes by waiting until a building has catastrophic needs before addressing its maintenance."

Bill Burr defends his appearance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival, calling it "one of the top three experiences I’ve had" and "mind blowing":

"It was great to experience that part of the world and to be a part of the first comedy festival over there in Saudi Arabia. The royals loved the show. Everyone was happy. The people that were doing the festival were thrilled."

"I had to stop a couple times during the show and say, 'I’ll be honest with you guys, I cannot f*cking believe any of you have any idea who I am.' It was just this great exchange of energy. They know their reputation. So they were extra friendly."

Weird. I think Jamal Khashoggi would give a vastly different review of his visit.

If you're wondering if a fourth grade breakout session to determine who is going to run a meeting to run their group project sounds like a grown-up conference call, you'd be correct.
Girl student one: One of us needs to lead this.
Boy one: HEEEEEEEEEEY everybody
Boy two: What are we going to work on?
Girl student one: OH GOD hush so we can talk. Everyone quit talking.
Boy three: I need a pin code.
Girl two: NO YOU DON'T
Boy one: We should pick a leader.
Girl One: BIG SIGH
Boy four (mine): You should be the leader, because you're the only one who cares about it enough. (Me: TINY! Him: What? It's true. Me: YOU SHOULD CARE TOO, Tiny: Sighs)
Boy four (mine): OK, what I meant is, you should be the leader because you care a lot and leaders should care a lot (turns to me: HAPPY?)
Girl one: OK. Let's pick an activity now. I think we should play a math game.
Girl two: I agree
All boys except boy one: Good idea
Boy one: HEY I WAS EATING A BANANA IN THE KITCHEN DID WE FIGURE OUT THAT PIN CODE THING?

During the pandemic, I frequently worked in the family room with my kid while he was attending class via Zoom.
This is a faithful accounting of a very amusing class assignment.

I mean “we” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this rant because none of the people on that stage are capable of mounting even a modicum of a defense on their own. I feel like a third grader given half a Red Bull and a bag of Jelly Bellies could probably restrain Miller for sure.

To be clear: most 2019 dem candidates supported extending healthcare covg options to undocumented immigrants, but those policies never became law.
Today - there are no democratic proposals that include such coverage.
Claiming Dems shut down the govt over healthcare covg for migrants is FALSE

Robert Roberson could die in 16 days Unless something changes in the next two weeks, Robert Roberson will become the first person in the U.S. to be executed for a conviction of “shaken baby

Robert Roberson faces execution on October 16. A growing bipartisan coalition is fighting to prevent that, and his attorneys have filed appeals. In the meantime, they’re doing anything they can to publicize his plight, including a Reddit AMA and a four-part podcast with @nbcnews.com's Lester Holt.
