"Butterfly Effect" is by far my favorite piece I've ever drawn. I know I keep sharing it, but I just hope it brings joy when people see it.
(Plus I don't have a whole lot of new art to share.)

Chasmosaurus belli (?) cast skeleton on display at the Australian Museum in Sydney
Happy #FossilFriday from the #Chasmosaurus at the Australian Museum in Sydney! This ~76my old Canadian dinosaur belongs to the Northern lineage of chasmosaurines - not the Southern branch that would give rise to Triceratops (Guevara et al 2024). This northern group had distinct, "square" frills.
13.12.2024 16:55 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Yours truly with the skull in the ground in eastern Montana. This is the right posterior skull upside down, itβs a slightly darker brown hourglass shape in light brown sandstone.
The outrageously beautiful chocolate colored bone of the unmistakable Tyrannosaurus in right lateral view. Premaxillae slightly out of position here. You can see the light brown sandstone, the white rind of the plaster jacket, and the red metal of the rotisserie used to rotate the specimen safely during prep.
Ventral view of the skull on the rotisserie, showing the palate still in matrix. Several teeth have broken away (safely) and will be reattached. The posterior widening of the skull for the large jaw muscles is particularly clear.
My favorite view of the skull during prep: looking along the snout from slightly above. Same chocolate bone and tan sandstone. The rugose nasals and bones around the eye let us imagine the craggy and keratinous covering of this individual. This is my favorite view because itβs the easiest one to imagine the eye flicking toward you, the nostrils flaring, and low noise beginningβ¦ π
The skull was excavated by @gpwilson11.bsky.socialβs crew (led by Dave DeMar) and amazingly prepped on a homemade rotisserie by Burke pros! βοΈ π
A joy of my career was helping excavate and then watching the anatomy emerge from the boulder.
Enjoy these behind-the-scenes photos! π¦ π€© #FossilFriday

The long claws of a Therizinosaur on display in Aathal, Switzerland. Picture posted to Wikimedia commons by Woudloper
The finger claws of #Therizinosaurus were up to ~50cm/1.5ft long - making them some of the longest ever discovered. Their usage has been heavily speculated, but the consensus is they would have been most useful as foraging tools rather than weapons for battle. #paleontology
