If no to ANY of the above: do not advise!

This is a thought provoking, bite sized little piece that boils down to, "don't give feedback on EVERYTHING, because not everything matters! give feedback on things that have impact."

I think it's a *great* exercise for the feedback-giver to think through the impact they want their advice to have.

I once read a comment saying something like "if you choose not to laugh at farts, your life will contain less laughter but still the same amount of farts". I think about that a lot.

Increasingly convinced the main damage cell phones have done to creativity isn't decreased attention spans or what not but the elimination of productive boredom. Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."

So I've found that saying to the robot: "See that last commit? go do that to all the other controllers" is a really good use of the LLM. Assuming you have good test coverage you can use that to keep it on the rails as it goes.

I think the approach described seems pretty reasonable, and is worth a read if you are getting started with trying to use LLMs to write production software.

"Most importantly, you'll understand why writing your own tests remains absolutely sacred..."

"When Claude writes tests, it just verifies that the code does what it already does, *not what it should do*"

There are other things it points out you should never let an LLM do, like database migrations.

Field Notes From Shipping Real Code With Claude - diwank's space Note: This post comes with a NotebookLM podcast (1linked at the bottom), and three generated audio recordings. You can read the conversation I had

This article covers some interesting ground on using LLMs (well, it's Claude specific, but generalizes I think) for production software development.

This makes it much easier to copy links into my notes with usually reasonable titles!

29.06.2025 18:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

A bookmarklet solves it:
```
javascript:(function(){var o,t=window.location.href,a=document.title;o="[["+t+"]["+a+"]]",navigator.clipboard&&navigator.clipboard.writeText?(window.focus(),navigator.clipboard.writeText(o).catch((function(o){alert("Error: "+o)}))):alert("No Clipboard API!")})();
```

I use org-mode in Emacs for my notes and often have to copy in links to sites requiring authentication. org-cliplink doesn't work so well in that situation, because it loads the page in Emacs to get the title for the link text, and of course can't authenticate.

29.06.2025 18:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

people ask me how to make an org or an event (Pixelles, Polaris, Kitfox, etc). over time, it's become clear the steps can't be broken down past
1 - decide on a goal
2 - figure out how to reach that goal
3 - find a trusted collaborator
4 - take it slow, it's a marathon

This was certainly the feeling i got the last time i agreed to do a survey (which is rare). Refused to continue after it became obvious.

One agentic coding tip I'm using is asking the agent to prefix its responses with an emoji to confirm it has read a certain file.

It's good - when I see certain emojis I know for sure that it has certain rules files in context.

Picked this up from Llewellyn Falco at Craft Conf 🧠

This is Max. He snuck out in the middle of the night and walked 5 miles to get a breakfast burrito from a store that gave him one once. They hadn't opened yet when he got there, but Max was found the next morning thanks to his GPS collar patiently waiting outside for his well-earned snack. 14/10

I have a thought experiment I like to consider when tech execs say AGI will lead to a golden era of radical abundance as AI solves every human problem.

Imagine if every government, corporation and individual had the genie from Aladdin’s lamp. Would we live in a golden era of radical abundance?

The professional regulator, APEGA, did a professional practice review on the water main break in Calgary. The engineers at the City of Calgary are awesome & they didn't do anything wrong. In the late 60s & early 70s there was bad pipe; in 1974 Calgary bought some of it. www.apega.ca/docs/default...

GitHub MCP suffers from the lethal trifecta for prompt injection: access to private data, exposure to malicious instructions + the ability to exfiltrate information

Be really careful with this stuff: attackers can trick your "agent" into stealing your private data simonwillison.net/2025/May/26/...

it feels a little hyperbole to call chatbots the death of ux, but at the same time, it feels like directly interacting, manipulating data will be supplanted by the world's least interesting text adventure game
