The most complex part of 6502 family assembly language is not the instructions, but the addressing modes -- there are a lot of them, and I don't want to front-load the viewer with a bunch all at once. Instead, they're introduced a bit at a time.
10.10.2025 16:02 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The 'alternative' 6502 mnemonics where letters are added to the standard mnemonic to specify the addressing mode - eg LDAIM 100
This format came about because existing macro assemblers could be easily adapted to support the 6502 processor. MOS, the makers of the 6502, didn't support this format.
In celebration of the 50th birthday of the 6502 here is a cleaned up and repaired Atari BASIC source based on the original "Atari BASIC Source Book" by Bill Wilkinson, Kathleen O'Brien, and Paul Laughton. Uses `make` with `ca65`.

One of the most difficult BBC Micro books to obtain. Is there anyone out there that has a copy? I managed to get an ex-library copy that was re-bound. Curious to know how many are actually around. It was withdrawn from sale for legal reasons - it contained an annotated disassembly of BBC BASIC.

The 6502 had no multiply or divide instruction. Developers faked it with loops, shifts, and a lot of cleverness.

It had been gnawing at me for a couple of years: For an emulated 6502 with 256 opcodes, is an array of functions faster or slower than a big switch statement? I figured the difference would be tiny. I was not prepared for identical performance. I guess the C# optimizer is pretty good.

Was there a Rockwell KIM-1? A myth or? Yes and no.
There is a KIM-1 by Rockwell in 1977.
No, it is a MOS Technology KIM-1 PCB.
Rockwell added documents with Rockwell title pages and contents 99% MOS Technology.
The Rockwell KIM-1 is just an OEM product!
