The areas enclosed by the successive stages in the construction of the Koch snowflake converge to 1.6 times the area of the original triangle, while the perimeters of the successive stages increase without bound. Consequently, the snowflake encloses a finite area, but has an infinite perimeter.

Incidentally this area factor is also why lungs are fractal and have a very large surface area contained within a comparatively small volume - same trick as eg the Koch snowflake (finite area but infinite perimeter).

I wonder if we could make fractal masks?

This is a really good point (made in the alt text but worth repeating) - surface area of the mask is a crucial parameter because the larger it is, the more air flows across it for a given pressure differential, making it that much easier to breathe.

BBC β€˜100% fake news’, says Donald Trump’s press secretary Comments by Karoline Leavitt follow allegations that Panorama documentary misled viewers with its editing of a Trump speech

The BBC should countersue Leavitt for slander. Should be fairly easy to prove that they aren't '100% fake news'.

Sounds mad but Trump only respects those who have the guts to stand up to him. If you give an inch, he will come back for more (see Columbia etc).

Paramount to pay Trump $16m over 60 Minutes Kamala Harris interview The media company noted the settlement does not include a statement of apology or regret.

Lots of companies that Trump has sued have folded now that he's president because paying a few million to be in his good books is worth it.

I wonder what such a platform would have produced in the UK eg in 2017 (out but close?), and what it would say today.

Incidentally I suspect Labour could get out of the corner they've boxed themselves into on Brexit by running a Citizens' Assembly on what to do next (cf Ireland and abortion).

Lessons From Consensus Building in Taiwan Taiwan is a world-leader in digital democracy. It all started in 2015 with vTaiwan, an online participation platform powered by Polis.

This, about the Polis platform used in Taiwan, might be of interest. Rather than merely attempting to be representative, it goes a step further and tries to build consensus.

(Disclaimer: I have no personal experience / don't know anyone who uses it.)

King Tut's collection displayed for first time at Egypt's grand museum.

The entire collection of King Tutankhamun's treasures -- over 4,500 artefacts – are on display together for the first time since the young pharaoh's tomb was discovered in 1922

Elon Musk continues to try to socialise civil war, political & inter-ethnic violence in Britain. He combines an argument that violence is inevitable with his call at the Tommy Robinson rally for pre-emptive violence, on grounds of an existential threat & the inevitability of violence

I've just come across these in a random archaeology video I'm watching. From 6th century BC, found in East Yorkshire in 1836 and immediately buried in the deepest museum vault by the Victorians, so no one's ever heard of them... which is a pity, I think?

That's pretty bad. In Andalusia (southern Spain), the solar noon is around 2.20 pm during the summer, which really confuses all the tourists and can be a problem if you're trying to avoid sunburn - you'd think that 3pm was reasonably safe, but it's the opposite.

Not in the UK - summer time over, we're now back on the astronomically correct GMT. (Well, correct-ish... solar noon currently at 11:44 am in London.)

In Europe the clocks go back a week earlier.

Labour urgently need to change the electoral system, eg back to Supplementary Vote as promised. FPTP over such a wide area with entrenched local parties is lunacy. SV is far from ideal but infinitely preferable to FPTP.

Hang on, how did you get 54-41? From the numbers you quoted,

Reunification/EU = SF+SDLP+Aontu = 26+11+2 = 39%
Unionist/Brexit = DUP+TUV+UUP = 17+13+11 = 41%

Even allowing for rounding errors, normalisation etc I don't see how you can get 54-41 out of this?
