Oh totally! Also no recognition that while EI might help drill kids for standardised tests like NAPLAN, inquiry develops the critical thinking that will let them make informed judgments (about using AI, trusting sources, voting as egs). A focus on short term gains over learning to learn.

It’s a lack of nuance. There was definitely a renewed focus on EI after the TEEP/Strong Beginnings directive for unis to include explicit instruction in teacher Ed programs last year, but no acknowledgment of the interplay between federal and state systems, varied approaches over time etc. Annoying!

But could you get more ‘Straya than hosting an Olympic event in croc-infested waters? I mean, we could add Drop-bear Dodge to the Decathlon, or the Bob Hawke Yard-Glass Time Trial…maybe enter a roo into the boxing? Do the 100m sprints across hot sand at Surfers? I think the rowing is very on brand 😂

Jose Merigo’s bibliometric analysis of @australianare.bsky.social’s Australian Educational Researcher over the last 40 years provided a great outline of a really interesting methodology and the growth and trends in the journal’s citation data. #AARE2024

Brett Rolfe’s presentation on experimental schools in New South Wales gave a comprehensive overview of how alternative schooling emerged and changed over time. Another great contribution to the #AARE2024 History and Education SIG sessions, and a killer (clear, engaging & colour coded!) slide deck!
