I've seen the guitar player on SR with the Strat in other James Last vids and he always looks like he wants you to know that he's a serious musician and has his own band, and maybe you'd like to have a listen sometime to the tapes?

I probably disagree with Roy Foster about many things, but this is excellently written and captures Dublin before the rising captivatingly:

This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited โ€œwords & concepts.โ€ I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories Iโ€™m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.

After an intense and absorbing show last week, Gwenifer Raymond reminded us to exit 'through the gift shop' and was selling records and T-shirts within a minute of finishing her set. Not that I think she shouldn't do it, but something feels off.

I was travelling (by boat) from Ireland to Britain the day after Ireland locked down and a week before the UK did. Very weird, since people were taking some measures already, without much in the way of guidance.

One of the best cups of coffee I ever had was in a Georgian cafe in Moscow. Coffee was hard to find there at the time - even McD's only did tea. But this was boiled in a tiny pot on the top of a stove with hot ages and with far too much sugar. Buzzing for days.
