AI'm not doing the homework In the age of AI permeating everything, is homework, as we know it, dead?

How do we make sure homework is still valuable when AI can 'do it for them?' Excellent post from @drcastelino.bsky.social

Homework: Purposeful, practical, positive. It is a question that often rears its head – just how much #homework should we be setting at primary school level? @drcastelino.bsky.social looks at the evidence & gives us a few practical pointers: buff.ly/TSBIsZM #teachers #schools #edusky

If the student, school and parents all have completely different conceptions of homework then it's likely to be a waste of everyone's time.

IT’S HERE! I am a massive believer in the power of concrete examples. This 4-part documentary shows lessons & unpacks the thinking behind them.

No I haven't. I have modelled with the slope of my hand but I think actually using a ruler under the visualiser while students do the same in their booklets has more power. The teacher I observed also demonstrates calculation of the gradient at different points to show how it changes.

19.01.2025 16:23 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes. I used to do the cell models too and then tried providing the materials to help but with hardly any gain. With something like what you did with your daughter, perhaps it is best as an optional suggestion of an activity to do but not as a piece of homework.

Were the schools providing these opportunities and the gap still widened? I think with homework, it needs to be something that all students can easily access and do (the thinking is the hard bit) but wonderful opportunities like the one in the initial post are done at school.

How to teach descriptions of graphs (such as accelerating at an increasing rate, etc.) by using a ruler to show students how the gradient actually changes. So simple and yet I never thought of it before.
