I am heartbroken by this news. I am so so sorry. Dawn's writing improved my teaching and thinking immeasurably.

I haven't read a book dedicated to Homework before so I think this book will be very helpful & important.
Congratulations @drcastelino.bsky.social ππ

Huge thanks to @pepsmccrea.bsky.social, the team at Steplab, Postcode films & of course colleagues & pupils for their involvement. ππΌ

No I haven't. I have modelled with the slope of my hand but I think actually using a ruler under the visualiser while students do the same in their booklets has more power. The teacher I observed also demonstrates calculation of the gradient at different points to show how it changes.
19.01.2025 16:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes. I used to do the cell models too and then tried providing the materials to help but with hardly any gain. With something like what you did with your daughter, perhaps it is best as an optional suggestion of an activity to do but not as a piece of homework.
19.01.2025 16:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Were the schools providing these opportunities and the gap still widened? I think with homework, it needs to be something that all students can easily access and do (the thinking is the hard bit) but wonderful opportunities like the one in the initial post are done at school.
19.01.2025 16:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0How to teach descriptions of graphs (such as accelerating at an increasing rate, etc.) by using a ruler to show students how the gradient actually changes. So simple and yet I never thought of it before.
19.01.2025 16:09 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Alright squad, tonight's question:
What's the thing you've seen this year that you thought "wow that's a great idea I'm going to do that" and then done it? Could be within your school, or something you saw online or whatever. Anything goes, T&L, behaviour, curriculum, leadership etc
Boom!!!
19.01.2025 16:00 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0That looks wonderful! But you are absolutely right- as a piece of homework, it is not equitable. If important, such activities are best carried out within school so ALL students have the chance to carry it out and gain from it.
