And with the embargos on the soviets forcing they had to trade with the one power left

Now granted i dont believe the splitting of poland was justified but if the soviets hadnted signed that pact they would have been completely alone. No western power would trade with them and none would stand up to the nazis UNTIL poland was invaded, which the soviets didnt expect.

The invasion of poland was not right, however there are a number of reasons why they did this. No.1 was because of the lost land from the russian empire and the region held a large majority of eastern slavs. No.2 it was revenge for the Polish-Soviet from 1920 were the poles seized a lot of this land

The Nazis were very public with its outrage and hatred towards the communists of the soviet union and therefore an alliance never would have worked long term and the soviets knew this. So they used a non-aggression pact to build up their military after having purged it of corrupt officers.

So theres a number of reasons why the soviets sign the molotov-ribbentrop pact and one of the main ones being to build up the military industry of the soviet union in the inevitable event that the germans invaded. They agreed to the pact for that non aggression to give them time to build up.

A non-aggression pact is not the same as an alliance
