Company towns, say in West Virginia, may not be colonial projects themselves (though one may argue they are) but they are surely in service of the broader colonial project of the US (and racial capitalism writ large). So long as the broader project exists any space expansion inherently serves it.
25.10.2025 13:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Any expansion into space at present can only be done in service of the existing projects of state/capital, both are colonial projects or part of colonial projects. Whether specific iterations of expansion requires enslavement or oppression of indigenous peoples doesn't change the overall project.
25.10.2025 13:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I feel colonialism still holds relevance here as framework, but don't think it's mutually exclusive with the "company town" metaphor/analogy. I feel colonialism is the underlying framework justifying expansion into "resourced land" to be used in the name of the colonial project (at home or afar).
25.10.2025 13:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
The world of violence and genocide we live under is borne from the social relations we exist in and reproduce. Colonialism is a social relations that necessitates genocide and ecocide regardless of where its focus is pointed. Aiming at space without unmaking that relation cannot lead to liberation.

I don't hate humanity, but you and I (and everyone else alive) is almost surely going to "die on this rock" whether I think we should or shouldn't. Any venture beyond this rock in anything resembling the near future will be done in the name of capitalist expansion and colonization. I'm against that.

Anyone got a good zine version of the Manifesto of the Committee to Abolish Outer Space? I'm in the mood to pick fights with the techno optimists who think their colonial relation to the cosmos is somehow different/good.

I promise you it means something to the person being kidnapped to see others actively fighting against their brutalization. That is with whom my solidarity lies, not some abstracted other.

The world cannot be reduced to data and experimental design. We have agency to affect the relations we exist within and do not need to wait while horrific violence befalls the most heavily targeted. The value of an act cannot be measured purely by it's material outcome.

Fight back against the fucking abductions you fucking coward. Stop moralizing observation and actually resist.
23.10.2025 16:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Explain to me how it is counterproductive to resist the abduction of individuals deemed prey, but standing by and watching their abduction isn't? What exactly are you hoping to produce through these ways of relating to present violence?
23.10.2025 16:13 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0
The danger is already present for those being abducted. It isn't more dangerous to resist, it is only a shift in where the danger is borne. It is okay to be afraid and for that fear to affect action, but justification of inaction because of "danger" is cowardice.
23.10.2025 16:10 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Every video you take of an ICE raid is infinitely more likely to send someone resisting that raid to prison than it is to hold anyone conducting the raid "accountable". Observation is not resistance. It is apologia for inaction.

ICE clearly does not, in totality, fear observation. When you stand by and dutifully observe the horror they enact, all that is proven is that you will watch as people are brutalized and do nothing aside from shout or film. Your deference to observation fuels the expansion of this horror.

The key to motivating "political" writing is to develop the skill of thinking about something so hard you get incomprehensibly angry at the world around you, such that your only options are to give in to the delirium of revolt and fight and claw and scream.......
or write an essay.
