Thank you to the LAPD and SCV Sheriff's Station for allowing me to join officers on patrol, see the nonstop nature of their work, and hear how training and bills I co-authored on retail theft are turning into action.

Last week, I joined law enforcement officers at both the Los Angeles Police Department and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station to see their work first hand and learn directly from those on the front lines.

Nonprofit hospitals receive tax breaks to provide community benefits including charity care. I introduced the Patient Debt Prevention Act to ensure that hospitals live up to that promise and patients get the help they need to afford care, not a call from a collection agent. #CalLeg

She had to fight for help with medical bills. A new California bill could make it easier Millions of Californians are burdened with medical debt. A new bill in the state Legislature would make hospitals do more to help.

Medical debt is the number one cause of bankruptcy year after year. No family should struggle to pay off avoidable hospital debt as a parent or child is recovering from an illness.

What a joy to bring smiles to the faces of so many kiddos at our Back-to-School Backpack Event! With the cost of living continuing to rise, every bit matters. That’s why we were proud to provide backpacks, school supplies, and resources to help over 1000 students head back to class ready to succeed.

I know Senator Archuleta and I appreciate hearing from people working directly with veterans and the court officials helping them find a path forward through assigned diversion programs, drug treatment, housing assistance, or other personalized conditions of rehabilitation.

As Chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, I’ve held hearings looking into how services are being impacted by budget cuts. The veterans courts are one of those key services that help veterans struggling with mental health disorders, trauma, or drug abuse caused by their service.

As the Chair of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, I’ve heard veterans share harrowing moments that leave wounds we can’t see. It was heartwarming to see the work of Share the Buzz creating experiences for vets and first responders to help navigate the impacts of PTSD through beekeeping.

Wonderful to catch up with the incredible SCV Man of the Year, Josh Rivas. It’s people like Josh, who give back so much, that make our community such a special place for us all. Thank you Josh!

So grateful for the opportunity to return to VIA Santa Clarita's Cocktails and Conversations. Having started small businesses myself, I know how tight margins can be. I enjoyed discussing how I’m working to make life in our community more affordable, safer, and welcoming to families and business.

Families are really struggling and food insecurity is very real for a lot of families. Meal programs like the School Day Cafe are a lifeline for hungry kids that we need to keep going.

Celebrating the incredible work of Finally Family Homes at their Southern Gospel Brunch. So grateful for their incredible work to a support the young adults and aging out foster youth in our community who are struggling with homelessness. They’re helping to provide the brighter future they deserve.

Issues like childcare and housing affordability - the same issues I am focused on making a difference on in Sacramento. We will continue to ensure our active service members are prioritized as we work to deliver a more affordable community for all.

As Chair of the Assembly Military & Veteran Affairs Committee, I was honored to co-host a San Diego area military tour along with my Senate counterpart, Bob Archuleta. It was incredible to see firsthand the work they do to keep us safe & the every day issues military service members & families face.

Yesterday the Landfill Fire Safety Act passed the Senate Environmental Quality Committee!

This bill will help protect families living near landfills by requiring early warning systems, stronger air monitoring, and real accountability for polluters.
