So Liadh came home on Tuesday—I been bad about keepin y’all up over here—and we’s learnin how ta handle double the night feedings & diaper changes & whatnot. It’s definitely a different animal, lemme tell ya. But havin her home is so nice. Cep for Rosie. She’s very unhappy about all this.

We can do a single day, no problem.

Last night was our first with Cillian at home. It went surprisingly well.
Liadh’s still in the NICU coz she ain’t made it ta 4lbs yet. They been pretty attached, so there was some concern about bringin him home without her. But turns out, if I put him on my chest & hum he goes right ta sleep.

Cillian Micheál arrived at 2:13 weighin 4lbs 0.7oz.
Liadh Caitín arrived shortly thereafter weighin 3lbs 11oz.
Cillian is latchin well but we’ll hafta see how much he’s actually able ta nurse. Liadh’s havin a little more trouble but we’ll see how the day goes.

The NIH is the single largest research institute in the world, comprised a 27 subsidiary institutes and centers, employin almost 19k scientists, healthcare professionals, and support staff. It’s responsible for nearly a third of all biomedical research fundin in the US. This is bad.

If this goes on long enough, history has told us what’ll happen: a brain drain the likes we ain’t seen since the Soviet Union moved inta the Eastern bloc. Those who could get out did. Many couldn’t. Not ta be alarmist, but if you have connections, I’d start tappin em in case this goes on.

They pulled this shit in 2017 too, yankin grant fundin coz they have no comprehension a how research works. If grant fundin stays frozen, grad students will lose jobs. PhD students will be denied their degrees. Labs will shut down. Professors will lose tenure opportunities.

Rescindin job offers may not seem as bad, but people pick up they entire lives for the opportunity ta work for NIH and its subsidiaries. The same is true for CDC, FDA, USDA-APHIS, which are in similar boats. Is USAMRIID affected? Coz that should scare the hell outta everybody.

A comms blackout means a freeze on patient recruitin for clinical trials. So if yer relyin on a clinical trial outcome as a researcher, you just got handed a massive delay. If yer relyin on a clinical trial as a patient, I am so unbelievably sorry.

Let the “I told you sos” begin. If yer a grad student workin ta publish as part a yer degree requirements & the lab yer with is an NIH subsidiary, you may now be royally fucked. Publication is a requirement for yer PhD.
