Oil painting of Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, shown with a long white beard, wide-brimmed hat, and a pipe. Heโ€™s lit by warm, golden light, with expressive brushstrokes and a soft, storytelling atmosphere. The piece has a classic, almost Rembrandt-like feel.

The Utnil once fought in the war of the gods against the giants created by the Goddess of creation "Itia".

Hello all! I just did my first en plein air of the year today on 18 x 24 cm canvas panel. It took me 1.5 hours. Fun to paint out of my small studio for a change. :D

A red skinned god of fire emerging out of a pillar of smoke, oozing out molten gold, reaching his hand to a crib that is in flames. From the crib a small infant hand is holding the god's index finger. Underneath the crib is a set of failed sacrifices and next to it some fire starters and ritual incense.

A small infant hand grabbing a larger grown up demonic hand surrounded by fire.

A god of fire "Anepek" from my Worldbuilding project "Jester's Tear" resurrecting a ritual sacrifice as an elemental.

There is a short story written around this painting that I wish to publish at some point.

Any dark fantasy indie Booksky authors who want paintings like this from your stories? <3

Wow, I finally got my brain back. Special thanks to whoever brought it back from Rijksmuseum. ๐Ÿคฃ

26.03.2025 07:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Would some picture references do the trick? There are copyright free references available out there on the internet. :D

24.03.2025 17:06 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Update: I think I left my brain at the Rijksmuseum. ๐Ÿคฃ Will someone please get it back for me? At least I can still paint and am already working on a new piece. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽจ

24.03.2025 16:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, my feeling's mutual. LOL I can always do sketch studies via Rijksmuseum's website so it's not a big deal. And to sketch there, I think I need to pick a day that it's not too busy. Saturday got pretty crowded rather quickly even though I went to the first timeslot and early in the line.

24.03.2025 09:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Exactly! ;)

24.03.2025 09:29 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Also, I didn't make sketches. I was there for 5 hours browsing. lol Maybe next time I will.

24.03.2025 09:10 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The Rijksmuseum website already has professional pictures, so there was no reason for me to do that, so it was all eyeball juice (lol at that term). There is one exception though, I made a few videos to get a feel for the scale, the details and to capture a funny moment.

24.03.2025 09:07 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Also as for water, just study some references. Maybe do some sketches. And try to see them as abstract shapes rather than identifying it as a body of water. Do I even make sense? :D

24.03.2025 09:05 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There are no tricks afaik, but the best tip I can give you is to paint more. The more you paint, the more you know how it works. Also to review basics now and then, it'll help to make the whole process easier. I hope that makes sense. You have a good sense of colors so just keep on going!

24.03.2025 09:04 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I went to Rijksmuseum. Incredible and moving. I'll need months to process this experience. ๐Ÿฅน I'll be back!

Hi! I just saw this. I'll get back to you on that in a day or so. Great painting by the way!

Yo, I just finished Sketching from Square One to Trafalgar Square by Richard E. Scott. ๐Ÿ“•

Wow! This was beautiful. Highly recommended for all artists to get this. It covers the basics in the most concise and memorable way, while inspiring you to sketch more frequently. His vibe is awesome too!
