I do not understand how this works. The NIH reimburses actual expenses and doesn't hand out checks for the full grant amount. So how does a multi-year award affect how many grants can be awarded? It's not like the NIH can bank the money either across fiscal years either. Is it budget uncertainty?

The ruins of a housing complex near a main road, with an open red arrow indicating the ruins of a serpentine wall that divides the complex from the road. From Dr. Zahi Hawass/Facebook

In 2021, archaeologists announced the discovery of the 3000 year old Egyptian city called "The Dazzling Aten" near Luxor.

I want to call your attention to a brick wall under the red arrow. It's 'serpentine' & a single brick wide, separating a housing complex from the road.

Why the odd shape?

Cholinergic feedback for modality- and context-specific modulation of sensory representations The brainโ€™s ability to prioritize sensory information is crucial for adaptive behavior, yet its mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated basal forebrain cholinergic neurons modulating olfactory bulb...

Our new paper is out in Science.

We identified a subgroup of cholinergic neurons that mediate sensory modality-specific attention. They change their funcitonal properties within secs of behavioral context change.

Congrats to Bin for the great thesis, and the team!
