100% agree. We’re good at not keeping unhappy players around for the sake of it. Also do City ever give 100% guarantees to anyone? I get that Donnarumma is elite but what would have happened if Ortega hit the form of his life? Everyone is second choice until proven otherwise.

Good win. A much needed open play Haaland goal and solid defensive display. The lack of second half goals is still a concern though #mancity

He had space to drive the ball and force players out of position though. In that instance, if he runs at pace it pressures defenders into mistakes and draws them out. He’s done a few similar things throughout the game where he needs to be more direct.

A key thing is making sure that the third forward is in the hole for second balls. In all of these clips either Marmoush or Semenyo are too deep when the ball comes back. There were times when they received the ball short in space and could have turned to create a 3v2 but instead passed backwards.

Just seen this Haaland video on Instagram. It is exactly this for me. We’re set up to get balls into the box now but don’t do it. We don’t have the players for fully controlling football anymore. Play the quicker balls to the forwards and we’ll be better #mcfc

Joe Hart’s analysis is so good on MOTD. He always goes into depth about how and why something is good or bad. So many pundits these days just do the lazy ‘he should save/score that’ without explaining why. There are fine margins in top tier football and it’s fascinating to hear the crucial details.
