Video game player since 1976. Likes to talk about video games from arcades to modern day. Specializes in sports video games from the past. Probably quote-posts a bit too much.
NEVER FORGET.
21.11.2025 15:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0GameMill's take on Rudolph is a reindeer game I hope that more people join.
21.11.2025 15:19 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Same as now:
The controller is unnecessarily complicated. The analog stick is too easy to damage with repeat use. The tiny C Buttons get in the way.
On the plus side? The D-Pad is nice. The Z-Trigger is a neat idea. It's not as uncomfortable to hold as it may look.
Thereโs no fixing video games without the entire thing burning to the ground and having its ashes scattered about. Every single executive needs replacing, and changes in doing business are a requisite for any kind of revival.
Things are fatally unsustainable.
The collapse of the video game industry will be studied and written about, and itโs going to take a long timeโ if everโ for any kind of recovery.
The collapse is unfortunately necessary for any kind of reset to occur, where priorities are adjusted and perhaps people learn from greedy decisions.
Iโm hoping to write some more thoughts on the Rudolph game tomorrow, but one thing I keep coming back to is how gosh darned good I think it looks when compared to the source material.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the game, despite flaws (like the ugh-worthy camera).
I wish I'd liked this game more... but the Pac-Gimmick didn't come close to saving it for me. I installed, tried, and deleted this in less than an hour total.
Maybe you will have a different experience-- and the physical extras are kinda nifty.
We're already seeing this in many areas. No matter how many video game fans try to reject AI, the industry keeps shoving it down their throats. You're starting to see it in other forms of entertainment, too-- and that's only the beginning. With a President-King who's All In on AI? It's here to stay.
20.11.2025 19:49 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0See, technocrats aren't going to allow plebs to reject AI. They'll try the soft way of convincing first before they just foist it upon everyone anyway.
"Don't like it? Tough. It's not like any of you pissants can do anything about it. So deal."
An AI exec is surprised that people aren't impressed with AI.
20.11.2025 19:42 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not getting into a sportsball Hall of Fame in your first time on a ballot does not mean you don't get in at all.
Yeah, Russell Wilson has been atrocious in the not-Seattle part of his playing career-- but that doesn't negate his HOF accomplishments. He probably waits a bit before getting the knock.
It's not like Maye is lying about the "getting paid to make comments" bit. SAS knows this. He's built an empire from it.
Kinda like his comments right here.
ICYMI, here's the full thread of October 2025 US Video Game Market Results from Circana and our friends at Sensor Tower.
20.11.2025 18:51 โ ๐ 27 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Shoot, I wish I had the patience and skill set to play DKC2. That's not at all a knock against the game's quality-- I just suck at it and no longer have the intrinsic motivation to try and power through games I'm not good at.
20.11.2025 18:49 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I want to say that this is the Donkey Kong Country ad? Nintendo knew what it had with DKC, I think-- and it went balls to the wall in advertising/marketing for it.
This is just so... 'Tude Era, as @gamesack.net has coined. I hate to admit that I kinda miss this time period?
I miss You Don't Know Jack, y'all. Just sayin'.
20.11.2025 18:28 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One thing I want to do with the new site is to use it to provide more context to games I pick up. I often post a photo here and a few words, but having the website means I can expand on that photo with more detail.
I have other ideas and topics, but we'll see if I can run with those in the future.
I will say that some updates there may come from my phone, especially if I'm getting the urge to post something that I'm in my "retro room". I might look into using my iPad more down there (since it has a keyboard).
But if posts aren't as cleanly formatted as I like, that's why.
So I finally rolled out the new peteskerritt.com website today-- moving from Wix back to WordPress. It's been a slower day in the office, so I've had some extra time to write a couple of things and get them posted.
While I can't/won't guarantee update schedules, this is where my writing will go.
So... Wii Sports was 2006. My mental calculator, now with fresh batteries, spits out that it's been 19 years. Not 24.
20.11.2025 17:21 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 024 years later, do I think that Wii Sports still holds up?
20.11.2025 17:05 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Part of the video game collecting experience is upgrades to games you bought early. I recently added a few upgrades to my library.
20.11.2025 15:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This was my first at-home version of Dragon's Lair-- pixelated mess and all. I didn't care. I played the heck out of this, and then bought similar titles like Revenge of the Ninja and Road Avenger.
Dragon's Lair remains one of my favorite games, despite the general internet's hate for it.
One "fun" game we play here in the IT Office is to see how long it takes for a copier jam to be cleared. Our first victim this morning has been down for 22 minutes and counting.
The copier has a screen that shows animated step-by-step directions to clear a jam, but nope! *sigh*
The IT office I work in has motion-sensing lights that turn off when there's little or no movement.
I've been at work for 50 minutes. The office is now dark, save for all of my RGB stuff here at my desk. I *could* flail around like one of those inflatable things at a car dealership, but... nah.
Is it fair to argue that Americans are very focused on video gaming from a domestic perspective? Absolutely. Domestic experience *is* my experience. I'm not saying it was better or worse than it was in other territories. It's simply what I know and lived through, so that's where my knowledge is.
20.11.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A lot of what I've learned about the Master System literally comes from an American. Watching @gamesack.net over the years, I've learned about the console and seen many of its games. But that kind of coverage 35 years ago, in domestic video game magazines, just wasn't a thing.
20.11.2025 12:44 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I could say the same about the TurboGrafx-16, a platform that I strongly believe deserved a better fate here. But nobody was penetrating the NES aura. The little gray box was a juggernaut. It was THE video game thing. Even if SEGA (or NEC) had "tried harder", the result wouldn't have changed.
20.11.2025 12:41 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Posts like that serve zero purpose other than to be angry (which is, to be fair, the sole purpose of social media) and to incite angry responses.
It's not like the Master System didn't get coverage in video game magazines here, by the way. Nintendo simply dominated the scene here-- so few cared.
I didnโt take photos of the PS2 games that came in today, but I completed two first-party sports series: MLB: The Show & World Tour Soccer.
MLB: The Show is the star here, as itโs still successful almost two decades later. Many have forgotten about (or bypassed) the PS2 entries, but theyโre great.
