It's worth mentioning that these are not solitary plants, so when one flower is blooming, there are typically others nearby blooming at the same time, increasing the likelihood of being pollinated by the moths of the area.

What a beautiful species it is!

The brightness of its bloom is instantly attractive against the dark of the desert to the moth species.
Finally, it takes a great deal of its own resources to put on such a spectacular show of nectar and bloom - through selection, his has proven to be more effective than if the flower stayed open.

It's a desert plant that is pollinated by moths.
While it may seem counterintuitive that a plant would only flower once a year, it has adapted to its environment and resources.
The cooler temperatures at night mean that the heat of the sun doesn't impact its large petals.
