I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge,β Sartre said. βBut they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past." Fascism, as Robert O. Paxton writes in The Anatomy of Fascism, βis an affair of the gut more than of the brain,β a phenomenon of βmobilizing passionsβ reaching a fever pitch that turns otherwise reasonable people into delusional, dangerous fanatics yearning for the void, for fascist movements β anywhere they are found, or have been found β want nothing more than the end of all things. It is a movement of death and destruction, of all-consuming nihilism. It is a movement that seeks to dismantle love and human connection wherever it is. It is an assault on what it is to be a human being. Nothing about fascism is natural. In fact, Paxton cites a number of intellectuals who in the 1930s dismissed fascism as a most unnatural phenomenon.
French philosopher and novelist Jean-Paul Sartre knew what made fascists tick.

When the Supreme Court struck down Biden's policies, it was tempting to think: "At least these limits on executive authority will bind Trump if he comes back into office." But noβthe court's skepticism of executive power vanished on Jan. 20, 2025. This dynamic is obvious to anyone paying attention!

The problem with venerating Kirk:
Many hadn't heard of him. They're now encountering isolated interviews and thinking he's not so bad.
Which means they've missed the bulk of his output and it's now necessary to speak ill of the dead to make sure they know how damaging it is to elevate him.
I would suggest this goes the other way too: if you hate Kirk, you should also hate political violence.
Kirk was consumed by the forces that he spent his life encouraging: violence, guns, paranoia, hate.
We reject Kirk & his legacy by condemning the kind of violence he would have laughed at.
I had no wish for him to be murdered, but Iβll harshly judge anyone who flies their flag at half staff for that hateful extremist or talks about honoring his memory. There was no honor in his life.

Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.
