Not sure how I missed all this but I read this out loud to my husband, then went over to the .gov site. Omg. It’s so, so bad. So many ellipses. And don’t get me wrong, I love a good ellipses but NOT ON A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE. Fuck their propaganda!

How does someone just pivot mid-career? Of anyone knows of any writer/editor, communications, or content management positions that are remote, hit up my DMs. I know the market is saturated and AI is taking over some of these jobs, but I mean, I gotta eat.

I don’t trust that HHS/FDA will do right by us and pay out our annual leave and severance in a reasonable timeframe. I should have 26 weeks of severance but our insurance ends August 26. FDA has been absolutely terrible through this entire process. Heartless. Cruel. Silent. ⬇️

I’m the earner in my household. I have 20+ years of experience and a master’s degree. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect to not have to get an entry-level position. And this admin has vilified federal employees so much that employers are hesitant to hire us. ⬇️

Job searching sucks so bad. I don’t know how people do it for over a year. I’ve only been at it for a few months and only a week of that has been serious (since I got RIF’d “officially” by HHS). There are state jobs available but all entry-level and I’d take a 25-50% pay cut. ⬇️

Their closing sentence in the email: “Thank you for your service to the American people.”

Yeah, go eat a bag of dicks. You stole my 18-year career and are dismantling science integrity. And that’s not even the worst thing that this admin did today. 🤬

In an absolutely cruel move, surprising no one, HHS/FDA sent those on the April 1 RIF list a generic email saying our separation date is effective COB today AFTER COB. Then blocked our access so that we couldn’t even log in to read the email.

Yes. I went right from grieving my dad who passed last year, right into all this. It never let up.

This. I told my husband I feel like I’ve been grieving since January. It feels very much like grief for what has been lost.

I don’t understand why they hate federal employees so much!

TBH, if my job isn’t reinstated, I don’t want to work for ANY government but it’s kind of hard to be picky right now when you need to support your family.

This tracks. Fed employees who were illegally fired (“RIFed”) can’t even get a contractor position now. We’re having to look to state and local government which pays so much less for someone with decades of experience than a federal or contract position.

I’m applying for jobs but the market is so bad right now. RIFs are still being contested in court so I’m kind of in limbo. Still getting paid (and have good severance if they eventually go through), just wanted to do my job like everyone else.
