'Both competition and cooperation' – that is an underlying principle of how Google designed its "AI co-scientist" platform to generate ideas and think like a scientist. We talk with the leaders of this project on the latest episode of the Night Science Podcast. @nightsciencepod.bsky.social

Can creativity in science be learnt? These researchers think so Time pressure gets in the way of ideas. Developing ‘creative oases’ and small grants for risky ideas can encourage innovative thinking in science.

Some say you either have "it" or you don't, and that creativity cannot be learned, but that really misses the point. Creativity is lost in the wrong environment. We need to recognize the "night science" aspect of our work and that we need to nurture it in our training. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

"Itai Yanai, a systems biologist at New York University [..] and a conference co-organizer, explained his research to a co-opted 16-year-old. As he did so, volunteers from the audience posed onstage as ‘genes’, imitating being turned on and off by waving their arms when tapped." Thank you Josie!
