So maybe cats are so unwilling to go in the cat-carrier because there's a cat ghost story involving a haunted cat-carrier and a guy named Schrรถdinger.

From โ€œSupport Black womenโ€ to crickets | Shay Stewart-Bouley For the better part of a decade, it was common to see hashtags and think-pieces admonishing people to support Black women and to trust Black women, but in the last few years, as the post George Floyd ...

300,000 Black women have left the labor market in a three month period this year, and it's estimated that the unemployment rate for Black women is as high as ten percent but none of this is getting much traction. So, I wrote about it on my blog.

That's hilarious. I love it. Unfortunately "wank" and "wanker" were not in the OED until the 1980s. It could be head-canon, though (no pun intended).

The police, the courts, the govt, are supposed to protect you against rapists and punish the rapists. How's that working out so far?

You need to defend yourself by any and all means.

"Host bodies" -- that is about as vile a perspective as I have ever heard. What kind of loathsome abomination of humanity thinks like this? "Host bodies" is beyond being for or against abortion. It is a declaration that bodies with wombs are inhuman and no more than property.

Chapter 7, when he is already mad. In a moment he will try to kill Faramir, and then he will kill himself. The loss of his wife, the burden of the shadow, the poisoning of his mind by Sauron, the death of Boromir, the mistreatment of Faramir and his, all of this comes before he says that.

Yes, Denethor certainly seems to have resented him, but it also says the only thing they disagreed about was Gandalf and Saruman.

Actually I think that if anybody was bent out of shape about the steward not being king, it was probably Denethor, tho he would have been in denial about it.

Frodo agrees that the story about B as a child "tell[s him] something" but is that the same as "explains a lot"? F also points out that B always treated Aragorn with honor. Faramir's remark about B and A not yet being rivals in war is striking given D's rivalry with a 40+ years earlier.

05.08.2025 18:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The question of how long does it take to become king was a legitimate question, and if B was not entirely satisfied with the answer, as he was with other questions and answers, he still recognized the authority of those who answered him.

05.08.2025 18:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

That's for sure. The whole "Men are weak" angle was way overplayed. But also I can understand how PJ might have felt that Aragorn the Mythic Hero could not be pulled off in this ahr.

05.08.2025 17:58 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I am not saying that you are suggesting any of these things, but the tendency among many to read Boromir backwards from Amon Hen can easily make B seem a villain waiting to happen. But when the Ring is in the mix we are all villains waiting to happen.

05.08.2025 17:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think that what Boromir thought as a child is significant, but is it really such a damning question? A little boy, aware his family has ruled for a 1k years, asks why his father is not king already. Are we to think that, if Denethor had died 5 years sooner, Boromir would have sought the throne?

05.08.2025 17:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I would temper this by saying that his identity was not hidden among the Dunedain or the Elves. At the same time I have always felt that with the arrival of the Grey Company he relaxes, and can be both Strider and Elessar at once, easily so.

05.08.2025 17:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 6    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'd say it's more that Aragorn reveals that he's a mythic hero when it's needed. So he is playing the part, but he isn't faking it. His role through most of his life is to be seen as something else than he is. Much as Odysseus disguises himself as a beggar when he first comes home.

โ€˜For where am I to go? And by what shall I steer? What is to be my quest? Bilbo went to find a treasure, there and back again; but I go to lose one, and not return, as far as I can see.โ€™
