ICE is routinely detaining legal residents and US Citizens in their rush to meet quotas imposed for political reasons. Their loved ones are often unable to get information for days. Is this who we want to be? ⚓️

The 5th Amendment reads, "nor shall any person ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." There is no extra protection in the amendment for citizens. If the government is allowed to make exceptions to due process, there is nothing here to protect you as a US citizen.

(I’m guessing this person is actually being reaffirmed, which might be “sacramental,” but is not technically a sacrament or sacramental rite.)

Reception is basically a pastoral prayer that fills an ecclesial function. It doesn’t have to be repeated as the person is already a member of the Episcopal Church. If someone wanted to repeat it, I’d steer them towards reaffirmation, which is specifically repeatable.

Helpful to make the distinction that Baptism is a sacrament, and Confirmation is a Sacramental Rite. Baptism is a necessary part of Christian life commended by Jesus. Confirmation is a rite developed by the church which is good and spirit filled, but not necessary.

The fact that Ada has gone complete Temperance because “that’s what her last husband, the Episcopal Priest, would have wanted”, has also been problematic for me. Episcopalians were notoriously anti-temperance. Inner city alcoholism was considered a lower-class problem and left to the Methodists.
