New Patrol Craft with Chinese Engines Complete Sea Trials, Part of 2.7 Billion Ruble Contract for Russian Emergency Services Kingisepp Machinery Plant (KMZ) has successfully completed sea trials with the RPK-640 and PK-500 patrol craft, based on a large contract for the Russian Emergency Services worth a total of 2.76 billion rubles. A press release published by KMZ noted that the vessels are part of a large contract for the construction of 199 multipurpose craft. Chinese-manufactured engines were procured for the boats, and have already proved their worth during testing.

Ill-Fated Soviet Nuclear Submarine ‘Komsomolets’ Sets Depth Record on This Date in 1985 A press release issued today, 4 August 2025, from Russia's Northern Shipyard - Sevmash - celebrated the 40th anniversary of the world's depth record (1027 meters) being set in 1985 by the Project 685 nuclear submarine Komsomolets, built at the Sevmash facility. To date, this record has not been surpassed by any fleet in the world. The dive took place in the Norwegian Sea and was exploited as a demonstration of the Soviet Union's superiority in nuclear submarine shipbuilding.

Almaz highlights foreign components its own design and production of high-speed boats for the Russian Ministry of Defense and Federal Security Service (FSB) as an example, but notes that the issue is widespread across all of the country's 2000+ ship design, ship construction, and ship repair facilities.

Stalin’s position, as well as that of his entourage, regarding the Korean issue in the winter of 1951 is revealed by secret instructions from the Kremlin (presumably via Gromyko) to Vladimir Razuvayev, the new Soviet ambassador to North Korea (see document 5).

From 1 August through the evening hours of 6 August, a navigational warning was announced for the area highlighted above, where live torpedo fire is expected to take place. Those familiar with the area and the Russian Federation Navy will know that this area is home to a number of Russian submarine bases, as well as the headquarters for the Russian Northern Fleet (see below image).

The vessel was developed to train Russian Navy carrier-based helicopter crews. Equipment on board can imitate various sea conditions. She boasts a 900 ton displacement, is 70 m long, and 12 m wide. She can reach speeds of up to 12 knots, has a sailing range of 500 miles, and an endurance of 2 days. In effect, a nice steel-plated sitting duck in the Black Sea for the Ukrainians.
